We got up early for us on the trip...7:30 AM - unimaginable!!!! ;) We were both super draggy from being out the night before, but me being the crazy organizer that I am, I wanted to make sure that we got to the station and grabbed our tickets with plenty of time. So, we locked up and said goodbye to our flat and Edinburgh, and took a taxi to Waverly Station (which seemed super lazy because it's not that far away, we just didn't want to drag our bags over the mound). We had no problem collecting our tickets, so we stopped for a coffee before jumping on our train to Leuchars, which is where you have to take the train to in order to get to St. Andrews. An hour train ride and a short ... read more

Holy Cow! Only three days left and our blog isn't going so well! We just got WiFi and we are all too tired to do too much. In fact, I am the only one awake (CML). This will be short, but I will load a few pix. Scotland is AWESOME!!! flowers, mountains, lochs, ocean, land formations, castles, castles, castles, churches, churches, sheep and more sheep!! We love it all. Please forgive us, but we will complete the blog soon. Ok... now the pix won't load. I will try again tomorrow. Sorry CML... read more

The Cheerleading Society held a social at the one club in St. Andrews. Yes, cheerleading in Scotland. The society played Bring It On at the Freshers' fayre to reel in potential members. Later they asked me if Cheerleaders really wear their uniforms to school everyday like they do on GLEE. Clearly they are a lot of fun!... read more

Freshers' Week I have settled into my single! I have been surrounded by freshmen going crazy. The girls in my corridor are great and we have a good time together. So far I have had only one class and it was taught by an American! I am not too worried though since it was in International Relations which apparently is a department overrun by Americans! I have joined a couple societies and can't wait to get started. I also want to keep everyone up to date on the things that I see here and don't understand: the first is meat pies, I have had chicken pie and it was delicious but there is a line and I think they have crossed it! also I have had several sightings of what I can only describe as "man ... read more

Geoff is a "pig in mud" - the old course at Saint Andrews, the home of golf. Chatted with some Australians who were about to tee off and then invaded the course for a few photos. Went ot the Scottish night - bagpipes, haggis, a ready supply of Italian wine but no Scotch !!! resulted in huge amount of merriment.... read more

This was our final day in Scotland. We had to travel back to Dundee to pick up Andy’s glasses but after that we made our way to St Andrews for lunch. It is a strange place in that even though it is in Scotland you could spend hours trying to find someone who spoke with a Scottish accent. Most people are jolly nice chaps in rugby shirts with their polo playing chums. Either that or groups of middle aged men kitted out in matching slacks and anoraks - as American golf trips tend to be. It is a place of strange street names, cobblestone roads, coffee shops and greenfly. Sadly the town seemed overrun with them making it quite unpleasant to be outside. We went to a fantastic Thai and Japanese restaurant for lunch and enjoyed ... read more

15/4/2010 After four days of work at our new home of Stoke-on-Trent we picked up our hire car and headed for Scotland. With our new Sat Nav we enjoyed the bliss of not getting confused at Englands giant six- way round- a-bouts (and we thought Lavy's 5ways was bad!). We arrived at Gretna Green apparently famous for its underage and quicky weddings. No we weren't getting married. We stopped the night at Grenta Hall a 1700's mansion perched up on a hill overlooking the lush Scottish countryside. With luxury's of a double bed with a real doona and TV a significant upgrade on our current nurses accommodation we settled in for an early night. After a hearty Scottish breaky (just like an English one) we hit the road bound for St. Andrew's. Despite the 'volcanic ash' ... read more

This weekend I went to St. Andrews with the International Students Center. St. Andrews is about 1 1/2 hours away from Edinburgh but the drive through the countryside was so pretty. The grass was so green in some places it was almost neon. St. Andrews is right on the North Sea on the East Coast in the kingdom of Fife. It had a lot of really nice beaches, one in particular is famous for being used in Chariots of Fire for a scene. Unfortunately while we were there it rained all day and was really cold. I walked around with a girl who lived in my dorm and two other girls that we met. We did walk around on the beach but not for too long because it was so windy and cold. Next to West ... read more

St Andrews Scotland -- Sept 3, 2009 Sept. 3rd was to be our day of travel to St Andrews a 5 ½ train ride which turned into a 10 ½ ride. First there was problems with the wires ahead of the train, next there was flooding near Dunbar and trains going north to Scotland were being turned back (after some delay the passengers from earlier trains were transferred to ours and we made it past Dunbar. However, problems come in 3‘s so our next problem was the breaks on the engine. Eventually we made it to St Andrews, in the pouring rain. The train station in Leuchars has tracks on both sides so they have long ramps to an over-pass, great safety device but not really fully appreciated in the pouring rain, particularly with people in ... read more

Well it seems I'm due for an update. Sorry for the delay, have been rather tired these past few days. So to recap - yesterday the family, Andrew and I headed up to Arthur's Seat for a nice hike. It took us about 3 hours and we went first along the escarpment side and then up to the very top peak. My ass is not impressed with me today, nor are my legs, but what can you do? It was a shame the weather wasn't more cooperative for our climb. There was a good degree of Haar coming in off the Firth of Forth (this is what the Scots call sea fog) which made it difficult for us to see much of anything at the peak beyond white, white and more white. We took a bunch ... read more
