London to Inverness, UK: 1277.4 miles round trip 26 May - 3 June 2012 Day 1: Saturday 26 May We left home at 06:30am heading to North London and picked up the M1 and M6. We saw lots of bikers on the motorway having realised afterwards that the
TT race on the Isle of Man was on and therefore many bikers were travelling north to the island. We met and chatted to French bikers from Lyon and Chambery (it's a small world), and were stranded on the M6 for 45 minutes due to an accident behind a group of Hell's Angels.
Riding in hot weather was hard and motorway conditions a bit boring. After crossing the Border, we stopped for the day in
Gretna, first town in Scotland. We arrived at 4pm and stayed in a B&B for the night.
Day 2: Sunday 27 May Left Gretna at 09:40am and got on the M74 and M8, destination Anne's home in Dumbarton. We arrived there at 12noon, spent the afternoon chilling our in the sun in the back garden and had dinner with the rest of the Heaney family.
Day 3: Monday 28 May to Day 5: Wednesday 30 May On leaving Anne's home, we went to see
Dumbarton Castle, and carried on North on the A82 along the shores of
Loch Lomond to
Inveraray. We then took a beautiful winding scenic road and arrived in
Oban. We rode past Loch Fyne, Gorran Bridge and Connel Bridge amongs other stunning landscapes. We settled for the night in bikers-friendly
Tanglin B&B.
Next was the drive through
Glen Coe all the way to
Fort Augustus via
Spean Bridge Commando Memorial. In Fort Augustus we visited the
Caledonian Canal and
the Falls of Foyers on the shores of
Loch Ness.
The next day, we travelled to
Eilean Donan Castle and
Loch Carron and arrived in Inverness at the end of the afternoon.
Day 6: Thursday 31 May We stayed in
Inverness for two days. Walking through town we enjoyed the river Ness, the castle, the cathedral and a bus trip to the beach at Nairn. We had a fantastic meal at
The Corner Grill. Day 7: Friday 1 June to Day 9: Sunday 3 June From Inverness we took the A9 going east through the mountainous and beautiful
Cairngorms National Park,
Balmoral and finished the day near Perth.
The next day we visited the
Falkirk Wheel before carrying on south on the motorway. Finding a room for the night
proved very difficult and we finally stayed over near Wigan.
Sunday was the last ride to Peckham, in the lashing rain all the way down. We arrived home very tired but extremely happy for a great holiday in Scotland. 😊😊

De Londres a Inverness, RU: 2055.8 km aller-retour 26 mai - 3 juin 2012 Jour 1: Samedi 26 mai Nous avons quitte la maison a 06:30 du matin en direction du nord de Londres sur les autoroutes M1 et M6. Nous avons rencontres beaucoup de motards, ayant realise apres coup qu'il y avait
la course annuelle TT sur l'ile de Man, ce qui attire les spectateurs motards. En route nous avons discute avec un groupe de motards francais de Lyon et Chambery (le monde est petit !), et avons ete bloques 45 minutes derriere des Hells Angels a cause d'un accident sur l'autoroute M1.
Rouler sous la grosse chaleur est plutot inconfortable et le paysage des autoroutes ennuyeux. Apres avoir passe la Frontiere, nous avons fait halte a
Gretna, premiere petite ville en Ecosse. Nous y sommes arrives vers 16 heures et sommes restes dans un B&B pour la nuit.
Jour 2: Dimanche 27 mai Partis de Gretna at 09:40
et pris l'autoroute M74 et M8 a destination de la maison d'Anne a Dumbarton. On y est arrive vers midi, apres-midi dans le jardin au soleil et dinner sur la terrasse avec tout l'famil.
Jour 3 a Jour 5: Lundi 28 mai a Mercredi 30 mai En partant de chez Anne, nous sommes alles voir le
Chateau de Dumbarton. Puis avons poursuivi la route vers le nord sur la nationaled A82 qui longe le
Loch Lomond jusque
Inveraray. Apres dejeuner, on a suivi une superbe route touristique pour arriver a
Oban. Nous avons passe par Loch Fyne, Pont de Gorran et Pont de Connel, entre autres jolis paysages.
Apres Oban, conduite a travers
Glen Coe tout le long sur la A82 jusque
Fort Augustus en passant par le
Memorial Commandos de Spean Bridge. A Fort Augustus, nous avons visite le
Canal Caledonien et la cascade de Foyers sur les bords du
Loch Ness.
Le lendemain nous sommes partis au
Chateau d'Eilean Donan, avons poursuivi sur
Loch Carron et sommes arrives a Inverness en fin d'apres midi.
Jour 6: Jeudi 31 mai Nous sommes restes deux jours a
Inverness a se ballader dans la ville aux abords de la riviere Ness, le chateau, la cathedrale. Nous sommes aussi alles a
la station balneaire de Nairn voir la plage.
Jour 7 a Jour 9: Vendredi 1 juin a Dimanche 3 juin En partant de Inverness, nous avons pris la nationale A9 a travers le montagneux et tres joli
Parc National de Cairngorms, Balmoral, la residence d'ete de la famille royale, et termine la journee pres de Perth.
Le lendemain, visite de
Falkirk Wheel avant de poursuivre vers le sud sur l'autoroute. On a eu beaucoup de mal a trouve une chambre en route.
Dimanche fut la derniere etape du voyage, sous une pluie constante, jusque Peckham. Nous sommes arrives a la maison bien fatigues mais super contents des vacances en Ecosse. 😊😊
