Well, we are still in Scotland doing all the family stuff, which has been great. Bird (Linda) and I have been meeting all these rellies that she has never met and I must say that it has been an emotional ride. We are currently spending some time in Galashiels with Bird's cousin John and his family. We travelled down on Tuesday from Dundee, with Stuart and Clare. Really nice people! The big event was that John fired up his BBQ on our first night and proclaimed that this was a unique event given that they are normally lucky if they get to have 3 BBQs per year, given the weather they normally enjoy. Everyone keeps telling us that this warm weather is very unusal. It's got to the point where we are saying "don't you have ... read more

It doesn't appear that my last blog has made it to the publisher?? In case you haven't received it, I will published an abridged version. We've now landed in bonnie Scotland. Flew from Amsterdam to Edinburgh and the weather has continued to be fine and warm. In fact England has had it's hotest day on record 32.5 degrees C and we've had it pretty warm up this way too. Anyway we've hired a car between, Stuart and Clare and Bird and I and the first thing you have to do is learn how to start it, without and operations manual and no car keys (a keyless car). Now that's different for those of us from the colonies! Finally figured it out, so we'll get on the road and figure out the other essentials as we go, ... read more

Hey all. Thailand is a beautiful country and very cheap. Had a mad few days in Bangkok before joining the tour group. Palaces and Buddah's galore. All had made. The buildings are stunning. Some of the hygiene is questionable. Some excellent food and some that smell so bad they make you want to be sick. If you dont like seafood or spicy food you wont be eating very much. Joined the tour on day 4 in Bangkok. Great bunch of people- Argintinian,German,Northern Irish and English, from the off we were told it was going to be a 17 day alcohol excursion. Its been true so far. Left Bangkok and headed upto Kanchanaburi and the Bridge over the River Kwai which was great. A 14 hour overnight booze train followed by buses, ferries and pick up truck took ... read more

Right, what the hell happened there then? It’s been THREE YEARS since I wrote this blog but for some reason I never published it. I’m not going to edit what I’ve said, basically it’s all based around “One Big Weekend” which is an annual Radio One concert in the UK which, for the first and only time, came to Scotland in May 2006, the fact that it came to Dundee was even better. I managed to get myself to both days, even though I didn’t get tickets for either, go figure? And had a pretty amazing time all weekend, unfortunately Fiona was really ill with the cold and couldn’t make it, leaving me hell-raising on my own. Anyway there’s much more to tell you in the next few blog so I’ll just publish this as is. ... read more

Rebecca has smuggled me into the Dundee U computer lab so we can check our e-mail for the first time in over a week. And what a week it has been... We arrived in Scotland stressed and tired. We made our series of trains, flights, and buses all within minutes of departure. Yes, we are certainly being divinely looked after. Rebecca had arranged for us to stay with the family of one of her Scottish friends throughout the Hogmanay festivities. So, for the first time during my journey I arrived at a the doorstep of a real home. In a real neighborhood. With a real family. The Youngs immediately helped us with our bags and poured us glasses of wine. In fact, they literally "wined and dined" us for the entire duration of our stay. Gorgeous ... read more

After waving goodbye to Italy we boarded our plane - destination Scotland - home of the knickerless kilt wearers, haggis and Billy Conolly. Also the place where we were to meet up with Paula, Aaron and Bridie to stay in our cottage to celebrate the Christmas week. After meeting up with the guys our first task was to find the cottage.. With Aaron driving and lauren as our map girl it seemed easy enough as it was only 45 minutes out of Edinburgh. Well supposedly 45 minutes away. In actuality it was more like 2 1/2 hours and with 5 people plus luggage packed, and I mean packed, into our tiny Micra hire car we were happy to see the sign for Kirkmill Cottage - our home for the next week. Second task was to organise ... read more
