On Tuesday, Sarah and I booked a tour of Stonehenge and Bath. We had to leave out of London because of availability. That meant an extra 90min there and back. So we spent a lot of time in a coach bus, but it was a really amazing day. The weather was pretty good, overcast like most days in England. We left early in the morning and arrive in Bath around lunchtime. We went into the Roman Baths and walked through the museum and around the actual baths. I didn’t know much about the roman baths so I found the audio tour quite interesting. You are not allowed to touch the water in the bath because the hot springs make a lot of bacteria. When you look in the water along the sides you can see black stuff growing up like a type of fungus. I had my hand sanitizer but I didn’t think it was worth it. We were also able to “taste the waters of Bath” for 50p. This water is okay to drink; it comes from a very deep spring and is filtered through rocks and earth. It is suppose to free you of disease and make you feel
better. I thought it tasted like salty water and after the second sip it made me feel sick. But made it cured me from something who knows? Then we took a beautiful drive through the English countryside to Stonehenge. I loved Stonehenge but I wish we had more time. I would have loved to sit and stare at it and really listen to the audio tour but we only had 45min and to look in the shop. I really enjoyed it and I took a lot of photos. It was magnificent to see. Can’t really describe it, you just have to go.
For my birthday Carolyn treated me to a wonderful London style birthday afternoon. It was her idea and she planned everything. We left for London early and then we walked across Hyde Park to Harrods. That store is AMAZING. They have everything, it is so overwhelming, you could spend forever in there, and all your money. Most of the stuff is too expensive to even be looking at. I picked up a pair of Jimmy Choo shoes that were 496pounds! I also touched an Armani suit. I couldn’t believe how nice the store was, each section was
decorated differently. I also saw the Diana and Dodi memorial. I did do some shopping and bought some stuff for myself, birthday present to me, and for my family. I had a really nice time in that store, so much to look at! Then after that we took a London black cab to The Dorchester, a 5 star hotel where a bunch of famous people stays, for high tea. It is a very British thing, high tea, which is lunch in the afternoon with tea of course. It was so pretty and elegant. I had the best tea I have ever tasted. We sat down in the gorgeous hall where we were served little finger sandwiches. Then followed by fresh scones with jam and clotted cream. These were my favourite. Then followed by small little desserts, which were very rich. Having your birthday in a place like this is very different then going to a restaurant where people who cant sing, sing and clap happy birthday. Embarrassing. Here the waiter brought me over a little dessert with a candle and the piano player played happy birthday, then people lightly clap. I loved it. The waiters here were all men, dressed
The circus
The first circus in England in penguin style tuxes. The whole experience was just amazing and I will never forget it. I can’t believe that Carolyn took me here. It was so nice of her. I am very lucky that I met such wonderful people while being here.
Friday I went to Bournemouth for the last day of class. I passed my exam and handed in the paperwork. Now I am just waiting for my paperwork in the mail, again! I also found out where I will be living in Edinburgh, I move in on June 2. Sarah also got a job in Edinburgh so I know I have one friend there already. We are living in different houses but we are not that far away. Everything is changing so quickly now. I feel like I am all settled in here in Oxford and I am moving again. Tomorrow I am leaving for Paris; I am excited and tiny bit nervous. But I am really looking forward to time with myself. I just want to go and look around because there are so many things to see. I am in Paris for 5 days and then I come back to Oxford for a night
before heading into Edinburgh. I am really going to miss Tash and Carolyn, they have been such great roommates but I am sure we will be keeping in touch. They are trying to get me to plan a trip to see them in Australia! One trip at a time!
