The Land of Hope and Glory. It certainly doesn't feel like it at the moment. The heavens had opened, as we arrived in the Cathedral city of Worcester some 6 hours after we departed from Bristol and The Well Hung Lover. The M5 hadn't really been that bad. We had stopped off for a socially distanced family gathering on the outskirts of Cheltenham. My sister has long since resided in this affluent corner of England, where the pace of life is slower. It is nearly 10 months ago since we had last met up. She rarely ventures north and we have less reason these days to venture south. The world put to rights, we made our way to Worcester. Whilst I have driven past Worcester many times on the adjacent motorway, we have only visited the ... read more

A little adventure to warm the bones after a winter in the UK We fly to Dubai tomorrow to stay on the recently refurbished Queen Elizabeth 2, now a hotel. She was the first ship we ever cruised on and so we have fond memories of her, in 2014 when we visited Dubai she was a rusting hulk nestled between two tankers. Then after 3 days we transfer to Queen Mary 2 for our cruise home via Oman, Jordan, Suez, Cyprus, Italy, Spain & Portugal. Back in time for Easter Eggs... read more

"As soon as you have made a thought , laugh at it ". Lao Tzu How many times during a year do you make thoughts and either laugh at them or cry at them? . This year quite often I would think. We thought life would be normal for us during 2018. Whatever that was going to be . Holidays. Planned and arranged . Work - well I was going to be still there and then like a bolt out of the blue we found ourselves spending most of the first half of the year caring for Glenns mum. We had to laugh many times during her illness and we cried a lot at times when things got too much. Life rumbled on as did the year. Spring passed us by. Summer flew by in the ... read more

Well after my last blog, we said we were looking for warmer climes The deal was Lin wanted to see the Northere Lights (ticked big time) and we would travel to the Caribbean for Jan/Feb. How disappointed were we, when we got back to our cabin last Tuesday (Phil day) to find the 50 night cruise on Oriana had been cancelled. Essential maintenance - propulsion we think - a bit key if your crossing the Atlantic!!! Our first full winter at home for a number of years Brr!!! Nothing in the diary Until spotted a couple of back to back cruises for July/August So back on board Arcadia to Scandinavia and Russia and then on to France, Spain and Italy. Highlights will be St Petersburg, a return to Helsinki (for me), to Copenhagen (for Lin) and ... read more

Well it's been an experience so far.... Was so exhausted after only a few hours sleep, so after the opening of the conference we headed straight to bed...oh was it needed. Was cold and tired, not a good combo for my head, sends me into a spin and can't cope.... Thank God, yes thank you God for a good nights sleep last night. What a beautiful part of the country we are in, rolling hills and forests, it's so beautiful. I've a few pics added bellow which give a rough but not perfect idea area. We had a great day today (Sunday) at the show and during afternoon Dom and I said we'd go to the prayer tent to soak and rest but when we got there they were about to start a painting class so ... read more

So the first part of our road trip is underway. We arrived in Birmingham and were collected by Richard who took us to Graham's home in Worcester where Dom and I were to stay. How beautiful is it that we come all the way to the uk to a conference and strangers (who are no longer strangers) host you and put you up. Very tired to bed at "Spanish time" nearly 2am! And then because I'm having a break from my oil treatment while here, I only managed to sleep for maybe 4 hours. ? Not fun! Graham had laid on a beautiful breakfast with strawberries, raspberries, melon, toast and cereals. Felt blessed indeed. We then went to Richards home where Kurt and Mel stayed and we had a nice lunch and then went to the ... read more

Yesterday, Monday, we set out for the market town of Worcester. We have had lazy mornings so did not get on the road until about 10-30am. It was an overcast day, coolish but no rain. After a 15 minute drive, we parked the car on the outskirts of Worcester by the Worcester-Birmingham canal and then strolled along the canal to the centre of the city.I love the canals with their narrow boats and bird life and the leisurely felling they evoke. Steve lead us to the Commandeery, a museum of the Civil War. Worcester was the site of a major battle during this time and Charles 1 was supposed to have left a large amount of silver here when he was forced to flee. Unfortunately, the Museum was closed as it was a Monday. We continued ... read more

Travelling day from Edinburgh to York, called in at a shopping centre on our way south for some essentials before heading to Selkirk in search of some tartan for Rylies kilt. Selkirk seems to be a town that spins tartan and deals in fabrics of all sorts. We found the address we were looking for only for it to be a large tin shed all closed up in an industrial area of town. Tried ringing the phone number that we had been given but it just kept cancelling out, obviously there is an area code we arent using and we don't know it. On the way past we had spotted another fabric barn type place with a cafe so stopped in for lunch and a look around, they did have tartans but none with the colours ... read more
