I always convince myself I'm pretty focused, times like today I have to ask myself if I really am? I'm out of work because of poor attitude (they recognised that I didn't want to stay in the job), I could sense it was coming but couldn't stop myself from allowing it to happen. I recognise that temp work is the way forward but that's only good if it's available. Today has been my first day of unemployment and I got up late and had a very unproductive day. Mondays are always going to be like that but it still annoys me. The plan is (and has not changed) Tenerife for a few months of work around the beginning of February. This week I'm going to work on getting a temp job, preferably a full time and ... read more

Monday 24 March 2008 Our flight landed in Manchester early in the morning and we immediately hopped a train to the city centre. We weren’t actually in Manchester to see Manchester, though. We just needed a cheap airport in Northern England to land in. When we arrived in the city centre our total sightseeing of the city consisted of the metro from Piccadilly to Victoria station. At Victoria we then caught another train which took us to the rural town of Sowerby Bridge to visit our travel buddies from Vietnam and Thailand, Phil and Kim. Immediately upon arrival at their house (photo), Phil started getting into snow-related mischief (photo). The weather had cleared a little so we decided to go out for a walk in the beautiful countryside (photos) and stop at a pub for lunch ... read more

A big, big thank you to all of those who turned up to join us in a farewell drink at the Hairy Lemon in Halifax. It was a very good turn out despite the fact that our timing was not the best.. Little did we know that our date to commence our emigration plans had coincided with school half term and most friends were either off skiing or holidaying with the kids.. Never the less, the numbers were high, the place was packed and a good night was had by all. Apparently the food was delicious, but did not have chance to sample the delights as I was too busy trying to chat to all friends and family who were divided over the two floors as well as nipping out for the occasional cigarette and having ... read more

Literary Genius I decided to get into the mood for travel earlier on... so I began trawling through some blogs of the South American variety. I saw a few like mine - quite uninspiring, very factual and pretty much aimed at an audience of two types of people - those that'll be / are there with them and those that will want to know they're safe and sound (i.e. family). Basically a diary that should be in emails or a notebook and not on a web site (I apologise now for this one!). It was by shear chance that I hit on a blog by a person nicknamed Beamish. You have got to read her blogs... she's the new Bill Bryson. Once I started reading the blog I had to finish it - and it's now ... read more
