What a week. The past 7 days have been both amazing and emotional. I'm down to the final preparations, which have been a lot more complicated than they should have been. For starters, it has only recently occured to me that I am taking a rucksack, not a suitcase, and that my luggage padlocks have nowhere to attach. I have therefore spent much time agonising over other options. The very helpful man working in Mountain Warehouse recommended a "drybag". This is essentially a posh and thicker bin bag to put your rucksack into. This can then be secured with the normal padlocks. Downside: all is takes is a thief with a pair of scissors and the contents of my bag is all theirs. Option 2 - discovered in Blacks - a wire "mesh" that covers the ... read more

So, the countdown has officially begun. Thought I'd start the travel blog before I actually start travelling so as to capture how much more nervous and equally excited I get over the coming weeks. To be honest, I thought I'd feel more nervous/excited by now. Maybe it hasn't really hit me yet despite this week marking 2 real "final countdown moments". Leaving Work At the grand old age of 27 I thought I'd be making my way up the career ladder at pace, well on my way to a job for which I have to wear a suit, have a P.A fetching me tea and telling me where to be and when, and have "business lunches". Instead, I have put all that on hold. My whole career - postponed whilst the young person in me decides ... read more

Though I stopped blogging for a while I've continued my exploration of England which this week took me to Birmingham, sometimes called Englands 'second city' because it has the largest population outside of London. Known for its industrial history a lot of people I've spoken to don't seem to think Birmingham is really worth visiting. I beg to differ! Even in winter there's a fair bit to do here depending on what you're in to. SHOPPING One of the things you hear about a lot is the famous Bullring, which not only has nothing to do wiith bull fighting, it doesn't even LOOK like a bull ring (though there is the ever popular bronze statue of a bull outside). It actually looks like is some kind of futuristic silver parasite has eaten a building, which I ... read more

Some funny things happen when you are all traveling on low budget, and from and to the same place. Jen, Ellie, Sarah, Monica and me ended up in the same coach from Manchester to Birmingham, which was obviously a lot of fun. Unfortunately I got sick a few days before the UK dates, and i was not fully recovered, but i got a bit better after a red bull and a great gas station which offered a hand job for only 5 pounds. And THAT'S why i love the UK so much. The travel from Manchester to Birmingham was pretty much fun, the toilet was rather small, but fresh aired, thanks to the little hole in the floor, and the laughs were great, I think i even slept for a short while. When we got out ... read more

Well, its done. Leg one of the trip has been booked this week. Flying to Bangkok, May 6th 2012. Now, i myself am shocked that we have been able to do this...mainly due to the fact that Stuart bless him, has a severe and genuine fear of flying. However, after a year of persuasion and some wine in a London restaurant last weekend - myself and my sister maanged to persuade him that this was the best and cheapest option to get us to the other side of the world. (recorded oral agreement on my phone no less) Albeit with some conditions.......i offered to pay for him too - oh and literally the rest of the trip will be overland, however that is fine with me, it will be an adventure. Flying over there for ... read more

Were going travelling in 2 days! It's come round so quick, we've barely had time to even look forward to it. Have to move out of the flat tommorow, (probably with horrible hangovers) and go home to Essex so we can fly out of Heathrow on Wednesday morning. Hopefully I will keep this blog up to date and tell you about all the adventures we have :) First stop....Dubai!... read more

I only have 13 minutes left on this comp, so tis is going to be a shortened version. (I have to pay a pound a minute) Day 1: plane was delayed 3 hrs and 10 minutes due to a medical emergency. had to divert to Iceland (on my list of places to go!) So I hung out w/ Dean and friends at Mcabes Pub in aurora instead of sitting at the airport for 4 hours. left denver at 11 something? British airways planes are crazy awesome!!!! 1st class is unlike anything I've ever seen! I cant even describe it. It was much fancier than US flights. slept for about 6 hours!!!! so time change isnt bothering me. missed dinner (not vegan friendly) and missed breakfast (was sleeping) arrived in london 330 ish pm. stayed in airport ... read more
