Anyone who has seen bluebells in an English wood knows how wonderful they look. The deep blue almost purple flowers against the lime green beeches, so fresh and bright after what has been a long cold winter. Flowers are bursting out of every rock crevice, every wall, flowerbed and garden. It is truly a beautiful time of the year and the sunshine has brought everything on in leaps and bounds as if they think if they don't get a move on, summer will be over and they will have missed it. It helps that many people have taken No Mow May to heart and the hedgerows and verges are burgeoning with cow parsley, buttercups and more. What a great initiative to help the pollinators after winter. We walked the dogs above Bramley and Chilworth along the ... read more

Well we go off again tomorrow morning - catch the tunnel train at 9.00am. Much lighter with car, top box (with camping gear in!) and car crammed full plus dogs. We have spent two or three days in the Peak District, waiting to pass on the Moose - r eally sad about that - brilliant vehicle, but not to be. Going over old times in the Peak - all those miles I rode on Freeway training for the endurance competitions. So beautiful and wild - almost stops you breathing! We have had some hilarious and horrendous times in the past week - I will write those up and put them on the blog with some photos, over the next week or so. If I was Bill Bryson it would make a book! I should think Kath ... read more

Well I did not think that I would be entering this from sunny Surrey again! I have entries to put in for Calais, Riems and Dijon - but this is Surrey. Still it is hot! We have decided that the Moose, as much as we love it, is just not practical. Have you tried getting in and out and up and down narrow roads in a motor home and towing a motor bike? I am sure we have learnt some very good french swear words - who knows? We arrived at this decision in Dijon. For a holiday the Moose and similar would be great but for the purpose we are going over for it is 'no go' simple as that. Also we could not leave the dogs in the motor home, (I say could not ... read more

Well here we are on the 28th August - we actually DO GO TOMORROW - I promise all of you we will really be going! Been so busy here doing nothing and something. Yesterday was different and if anybody had been watching Graham & myself when the Red Arrows kept flying over whilst doing a demonstration, they would have thought we were crackers. Falling over dogs, banging into fences, swearing at trees and tripping over each other. Me pretending to do the David Bailey bit with my camera - an amazing camera and I really did get a couple of good shots - but guess what - just after i took one shot I heard the camera voice say "Low Battery" - yes it then went black just as the bests overhead shots came our way! ... read more

Justa quick note to down load a couple more photos. Nothing really happened - Guy gone to Sheffield on motorbike to see Simon & Andy Sincs & co. Just mooching around cleaning the Moose up ready for the off. Had lovely meal out with Kath & Graham last night, drank too much wine yet again - but that is half the fun with friends! Right going to try and put some photos on.... read more

Well it has been a few days since I last made an entry. Frustrating to say the least. The Moose developed a good fault and we were stuck in the Park & Ride outside Guildford with the ignition barrel jamming. Park & Ride attendant very helpful as apparently Motor homes are not allowed as they don't want to encourage people like us??!! Actually he was very nice and by the time i had chatted to him for the hour it too the Breakdown people to come out to us, he declared that we could pull over any time we liked and showed us where to park! Breakdown man put half a can of WD40 down the barrel and the temperamental Moose started up straight away! Anyway, we went to a dealership that, yes, deals in motorhomes, ... read more

Well we still are in the UK. Waiting on the banks and to speak to Miles when he lands in LA on Wednesday evening. Booked for the tunnel on Tuesday 29th August at 4pm. I know - we are taking ages but we are really chilling out here with Kath & Graham - they are being so patient! Plenty of walking old haunts, drinking good wine, eating good food that we are all cooking - sounds like a good prelude to Italy! Getting used to driving the Moose, though I have to say i tend to slip to the right a bit, presume this is due to the left hand drive bit. It is great how people move out of the way especially at roundabouts and narrow roads - King of the Road! I shall attempt ... read more

The Hen has died and gone to hen heaven - sorry sad start to the day. Died in the goat shed where it all originally happened. Sorry Andrea and Neil - at least she was old. Before I move on I must say a huge THANK YOU to Andrea and Neil for helping us out so much, and the week spent house sitting has been excellent. Thank you. We headed down to Derby fully loaded with dogs, all our stuff I hope, diesel etc and arrived there at lunch time. Pestered Nigel for coffee and biscuits and of course the dogs obliged in his garden. So well trained not to soil on their own territory (but of course they don't have their own now!). Sorry Nigel!. Really good to see Nigel and Jan and although Gill ... read more
