A final dinner in one of the local eateries, a mountain of Tiger prawns in garlic, washed down with some fine regional wines, we ended our week in Lake Annecy. With bikes in bags we made our way to London, six trains and 9 hours later we arrived back at Ashtead.. Our overviews: To have ridden so far and seen so much of the French countryside, and become familiar with the people, their common courtesy and lifestyles, was for myself a massive learning curve, especially as they are our nearest neighbours. I had a great laugh spending quality time with and riding alongside Colin & Paul, and considering they both only started cycling last summer, to have completed this trip, often in hard conditions and at a reasonable pace was a fantastic achievement and has to ... read more

We are packed and ready to go, meet at Pauls 8.45 with a 9 o'clock start. A final decision on the route to Wye, our first night stop has yet to be decided, do we go via Purley ( hillier & shorter ) or Dorking to the A25, ( flatter & longer ) we'll decide at the off. Weather is dry but very windy, too windy, gusts up to 40 mph expected today and wind speeds up to 25 mph on mon & tues, not good for cycling, especially with panniers..Well just have to knuckle down and take turns at the front, like they do on the telly. Annecy here we come ! Michael, Paul & Colin Ps: A big thank you for all the kind support we have received and to all those who have ... read more

Well here we are, after many months of training and planning we are finally ready.. Paul is biting at the bit to get on his saddle and cant wait to get to those mountains. Colin will probably still be doing up his laces on the day and trying very hard not to think about any hills let alone The Alps. Michael, I just cant wait to get under way and enjoy the route that Mr Duxberry has planned for us.... read more

We got back to the UK and immediately set our minds to advertising and hopefully selling Lentil. As much as we loved the van during our travels, it was imperative we Lentil found a new owner as we were soon to be heading off to India. Also, our travel budget determined that Lentil should be sold for roughly what we bought it for. This process was happily broken up by Phoebe's 8th birthday which we celebrated with Andrew, Alex, Niamh and Carrig. The following day we took Phoebe to Legoland as her birthday present. None of us knew much about Legoland, other than it was supposed to heaps of fun, and as Phoebe is such a big lego fan we figured if anything surrounding her with lego all day would be her idea of paradise. Kids ... read more

We left Ireland on the same ferry that we'd arrived on - eight hours from Dublin to Liverpool complete with a fried and fatty breakfast and an extra-deep-fried early dinner. We had decided that we would now head south to visit some of my relatives in Cheltenham and Surrey, while also catching up with the half of Australia and New Zealand who seem to live in London at the moment. Over the years a couple of UK branches of my extended family tree have kept in touch, which is fantastic not least because it gives us a place to stay and someone to show us around! There has been a reciprocal arrangement for a long time - relatives have stayed with my family in Auckland some time in the last fifteen years while before that my ... read more
