Edit Blog Post

Well our last two days in the Netherlands were good. Emily and I went to Amsterdam via train one day. We went to the Van Gogh museum, which was really cool. One floor was entirely dedicated to his paintings and it was in chronological order so we could see the progression of his paintings. At the beginning of his career as a painter, his paintings were very dark, with hardly any color at all. In 1886, he moved to the Montmartre area of Paris to live with his brother Theo and his brother told him that in order for his paintings to sell, he needed to add more color, so he did, and for those two years that he was in Paris, his paintings were very colorful. The most famous one that was painted then was "Sunflowers." (It was on the walking tour of the Montmartre area in Paris that I learned all of this... we actually saw the outside of the building where Van Gogh and his brother lived.) So that museum was pretty cool. Then we went to a park and ate a picnic lunch and then ended up just laying in the park for a couple hours in the afternoon. That was nice and relaxing and it was fun to just watch people because the park was really busy. Then for the rest of the afternoon we just walked around Amsterdam. Then, yesterday we went into Utrecht (by biking, which was really cool.. It's so great that you can bike almost anywhere because there are great trails everywhere) with Bob and he showed us around the city. The main thing that we saw there was the Dom church. The church was pretty cool, but the best thing was climbing the 500 steps to the top of the tower and getting a great view of the city. Then later in the evening we caught a train to Hoek van Holland to get on our train for Harwick. The ferry was great. We got on it about 10pm and we had a cabin (we had to, they didn't have coach seats) so we pretty much just went straight to bed and then when we woke up at 6am, it was pretty much time to get off the boat. We got into England this morning at 6:30am and Chris, Emily's nephew, was there at the ferry-port to pick us up. Chris is in the air-force (American) stationed just between London and Cambridge. So today he showed us around the base a little. It's really nice. It's pretty much like a college campus, except instead of going to class, they go work on and fly military planes. There are restaurants here and a dining center and dorms that the military people live in. The hotel that we are in here is pretty nice. A lot nicer than any of the hostels or hotels we have been at the last few weeks. So this afternoon we went to Cambridge (only about a 40min drive) and walked around and saw some of the colleges there. It's pretty much a college town, but it's really cool just because the buildings and everything are so old. There's a canal or river (or some water) running through it, so we just walked along the waterfront for a while. And now we are just back in our hotel and tomorrow we are going to London for the day, and I can't wait for that 😊
I don't think that I am going to be able to post any pictures when I'm here because the internet is really slow, but I'll post some once I'm home)

The last entry?
I've loved following your trip. I guess this is the last entry. Sad. But all journeys must come to an end.
