A different trip this time. Not our usual France but Germany. Bob wants to visit some spectacular castles and steam railways and I’m agreed so we will be heading for Bavaria via Belgium leaving tomorrow at the crack of dawn. Seem to have been very busy this last month and it’s taken an effort to get Tandy ready for the off. We’ve only been out in Tandy once this year so far. We had 4 days in the Lake District in early May and were glad we had as Bob realised there was a problem with Kisbee scooter’s starting mechanism. All now sorted fortunately as it could have been tricky if we had gone away with a scooter which refused to start. The garden is looking quite magnificent as we’ve had some glorious sunny weather, as ... read more

Life's a funny old thing isn't it? My thought of the day said something like " Feel good, be good and do good" All laudable things to do. Do I feel good? Yes I suppose I do. The first day of official Spring has arrived and with it better weather . It is hard not to feel good when the sun has started to shine, the clocks have changed to British Summer Time and the hedgerows are starting to colour up with that fresh Springlike lime green. The snowdrops have gone over and been replaced by the pale mauves of the crocus; they in turn have given over to nodding yellow daffodils and thick white buds on the magnolia. It is hard to feel anything but happy. The new Sally Sat Nag seems to be the ... read more

Spring last week felt as if it were just round the corner. Just as you think it is safe to venture out then Winter comes back to bite you. As we progress further into February I remember mums saying "Never cast a clout until May is out". We wore liberty bodices until June. We barely changed into summer school uniform until the Whitsunday Holidays had passed us by. In some ways mum was right . It turned cold over the weekend and the predicted flurry of snow arrived coating the Pennines and the Peak District with the slushy, wet and mushy stuff . Luckily it was fairly shortlived as it turned to rain and washed itself away. Before it arrived we took Suzy for her new tyres. We almost made a mistake with them. Arriving at ... read more

Christmas seems a lifetime away. Hwyl - a welsh goodbye to Christmas and helo a chroeswch - welcome to a new year . 2017 and the start of other great and small adventures. January feels listless and I am reminded of the Pilot song which went something like "January sick and tired you've been hanging on me". The corner looks empty now the Christmas tree has been taken down. The days are grey and dull and have that November feel of dampness upon them. . The Derbyshire sky lifeless. The sun obscured by the thick clouds . The wind holds a chill which touches with its icy fingers. Towards the end of the week snow is predicted. Any rain is likely to fall as snow or sleet. Winter perhaps is on the verge of arriving. There ... read more

D Day minus 136 - Still not got Suzy back. A phone call to us on Friday told us that the leak had been found and had been sealed. Now it was only a matter of time for the joint to set and for us to be given the nod to pick her up. We waited Monday - nothing. Today nothing so gave up and went out for the day. You cannot sit at home all day doing nothing waiting for the postman to arrive with ordered presents and for the caravan people to ring up. It is meterological winter. It has felt it. No longer do we have the mild days with a slightly light coloured duck egg blue sky. We have cold. Frost overnight down to a low of - 5. Waking up to ... read more

Well so ends a really rather excellent holiday. No rush to leave in the morning as ferry not until midday so we set off at a leisurely pace and headed for the supermarket. Intermarche first where Bob filled one of his collapsible crates with bottles of wine. Then to Le Clerc where Bob filled the second crate. Nicely stowed under the table until we get home and will keep Bob happy through the winter as he likes a glass of white with dinner 2 or 3 nights a week. Jus d’abricot for me and a nice selection of little French puddings to keep us going until our Frenchness has worn off (with the suntan). And so to the ferry port and onto the boat and away we went. Another rather nice day with lots of blue ... read more

We had planned, 2nd attempt, to visit Corsica this trip. We have changed our minds. We are allowed to, its our holiday. So instead we are going to the South of France via Italy. Much simpler, more relaxing. We seem to have had a busy time this last 2 months, since we returned from our June trip to France. Had hoped to get the work done on the front garden which we have arranged but that is now deferred until we get back from this trip. The work on the house itself is completed though. All the old part has been repointed. A messy, noisy job but all now finished and hopefully by the end of the year, the front garden will be all sorted out too, to make it easy to maintain,. We have enjoyed ... read more
Izzy and George came for a visit. Thank goodness we had lovely weather.
We spent a weekend in Ruthin with sister Liz and husband Graham. Gloriously sunny.
Bob's birthday. I made dinner for his 3 children. It was a lovely evening so we ate outside.

Geo: 52.757, -1.93461We eventually left Rookesbury Park on Sunday, 7th August (Day 108) after spending many days getting to know Elena, our first grandchild. Precious moments, but a wrench having to say goodbye, for now at least. Thankfully the journey back to our home was straightforward and by lunchtime we were beginning the task of emptying our 'holiday home from home', preparing it for going back into storage until the next time. The day ended on a high too as we were reunited with our son and his girlfriend over a dinner of roast beef and all the trimmings prepared by Janet, my sister-in-law. She had obviously remembered our conversations about things we miss whilst away for long periods of time, and that was one of them. A perfect ending to a great trip. The caravan site ... read more

Suzy has moved. Not far it has to be said. But moved she has. From her normal resting place she now sits on the driveway. The conifers were lopped and she sits there waiting. Waiting to go on a journey. The days are being counted down and I only have another 23 days to go before she will be washed, cleaned and tidied up, filled with clothes and all the cares of the world will be far behind me as I hit the road. A passenger on another journey to an unknown different Europe. A Europe that we are trying to escape from. I wonder just how different it will feel or will it be same old same old Europe. The pound has taken a bit of a beating recently and the rate of exchange between ... read more

So much of my time has been taken up with house related activities. Not that I mind this particularly, it's been interesting to see just how quickly I slotted back into an earlier lifestyle; when my life here revolved around earning a living, gardening and home maintenance. I didn't want to spend all of my time doing jobs and making arrangements for the house sale; this trip was after all supposed to have been partly a holiday. There is a very large nature reserve close to my house called Consall Nature Park. A ten minute walk from my home will take me to the start of one of the many footpaths that lead down into the park. There are several attractions to be found there, and to say that there is something for everyone is not ... read more
