Finally, I am back in England and my little adventure is over. I have been back since 21/04/07, but have only just got around to typing my final entry. Firstly, an apology to all my avid readers. Having read my blog entries since returning, I have noticed a considerable number of spelling mistakes. Sorry about this, I should have been more careful whilst typing, although keyboard layouts vary across different countries. Back to my travels, I went from Salamanca to Madrid and parked by the University for a few days. Madrid is one of the places I most wanted to visit and I was not disappointed. The Parque del Retiro and Palacio Real (royal palace) being the tourist highlights for me. Another highlight was a 3 course meal that cost just 7euros and included a ... read more

Bank holidays are so precious these days, and so when a promising weather forecast was combined with Mandi Mason’s offer of a reunion with the guys from Nottingham Uni based upon a long weekend of banter and boating on the Trent and Mersey canal, I jumped at the chance! We assembled at Mandi’s house in the mighty Stone, and after only the briefest of delays to ride the cool model railway thing that runs through her parent’s back garden we set off to Morrisons to get hold of 3 days worth of supplies for our boating extravaganza. Suitably prepared, we got the supplies down to the boat and four of the six of us got on with getting the boat underway, while Sarah Morris and I headed back to drop off the car and then ... read more

Here's the follow up of my trip to Great Britain in March and April 2007... I got stuck in Carlisle on the north west coast of England for a week. My idea was to visit potters driving along the way throughout Britain. I left Carlisle on Friday around 4pm with cash pounds and pens in my pocket heading south to a place known for its ceramic industry. John, the expat friend with a house in the village where I live in France, had explained to me that Stoke-on-Trent was actually a conglomerate of several towns. He had scribbled in my michelin edition 2007 map of Great Britain and Ireland that I should visit Hanley, Fenton, Burslem and Longton. The electric kiln in my pottery studio (berryhobby.blogspot.com) is tagged Potterycrafts Ltd, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. I was keen to ... read more

Ten countries, 35000 air miles, (72 air hours!), lots of anticipation, excitement, a little trepidation and lots of trust in God!! The start of the story... Trial packing.. how to fit all the hot and cold weather clothes, 3+ cameras, all the gadgets(!) and to stay inside the weight limit and yet leave space for souvenirs to be collected en-route? Well, we’re a week away from flying off to Kenya to get married. Are we ready? Not yet. The never-ending stream of things we need to do is, well, never- ending. We’re still trying to finalise the legal niceties (we don’t want a Mick Jagger / Jerry Hall moment), there’s still a couple of restaurants to book and I’ve got a couple of surprises to line up for Fi. Our biggest issue at the moment though is finding a photographer. For some reason there doesn’t seem to be a surplus of them in the middle of the Masai Mara. If the camp cannot get something arranged soon, we might have to rely on a passing tourist! But at least we have the tickets. Whenever we’re going away on a big holiday - the moment the tickets ... read more

Sleeping outside without a tent can probably only be done a few weeks a year in Canada, if its actually warm than the mosquitos will promptly show you their hospitality. However I wake from my third night outside and have yet to have any problems with bugs or even people for that matter. I can only assume that nobody has noticed me, and even if they do the most i can expect is a poke from a stick. Another early morning means more waiting for stores to open while I try to amuse myself. The front bike tire is definetely flat and the gas station air pump only gives me false hope. The Asca grocery opens and I'm surprised by how many people actually stand outside waiting for the doors to open, and its not ... read more
