It's been a long winter. We always find them so which is why, for as many years as we can remember, we have packed our cases at the beginning of February and headed for the airport. Most recently Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, Vietnam. Singapore, Istanbul and the last one South Africa in 2020. Covid put a stop to a 2021 trip and to be honest if we hadn't gone to South Africa when we did we would never have gone because by the time we came back Covid was on the loose. We've only holidayed in England since and swapped our motorhome set up from our beloved Tandy and Kisbee scooter to a lovely Chausson and a towed Smart Car aka Smart Arse. We had 8 weeks of motorhome holiday in 2021 all in England which ... read more

Packed up and ready for a speedy getaway. Smart Arse hitched onto the back of Welcome and we're off. Slow departure from the campsite because of the very (very) narrow railway bridge between the campsite and the road. Involved pushing passenger mirror in and then Bob driving through with me in front watching every inch of space on either side. Bob did it. He does has excellent spatial judgement. And then the slow drive to end all slow drives. Think every vehicle in England is on the East West road across Dorset today. No obvious reason for it, just sheer volume of traffic as they say. There was one stretch with 2 mile queue either side which was a coned off 'road works' 100 metres long ..no road being worked on though. We did a lot ... read more

1914 breakout of the First World War. The war to end all wars. The war that would be over by Christmas or so they said. The war that heralded fighting in the mud filled trenches and introduced modern warfare to the unsuspecting world. The war of tanks and of the Battle of the Somme. 1918 - 100 years since that war ended, The world was never going to be the same again. A generation of young men lost to the carnage of war . Did we learn our lessons? No we certainly did not. Confucious reminded us that "Learning without thought is labour lost, thought without learning is perilous". When I think of the Great War I feel that we have never learned a thing. We continue to make mistakes. As we stood in front of ... read more

Every luggages were alright... It's the departure ! I was sad to leaving my family, my friends and my girlfriend behind me but I have had no choice. I took the plane from Lyon, Saint-Exupéry to Birmingham, International during 1 hour and 45 minutes before taking the train from Birmingham to Stoke-On-Trent during 1 hour. It was simple for me to make this travel because I'm resourcful and I'm not afraid to travel alone. At approximatly 5:30 p.m, I m arrived to my accomodation on Stoke, on Caledonia Road. It's a student residence with 3 or 4 bedrooms per apartment. I'm actually with a german boy, and the last room is available. Not to mention my room, I have my own shower and my own toilet. We have share kitchen, share lounge and share TV. My ... read more

Suzy is sitting comfortably on our drive, We picked up a new table for her today . The one that we have that came with her is rather unwieldy and takes up a lot of room in the cupboards. This makes it hard to get the table in and out and use it. The new one we purchased is much smaller and compact and fits in to a suitcase size box. Albeit a large box but at least it fits where we want it to go and we should be able to get more use out of it. After picking up the table we headed off to the Stoke on Trent area to visit Biddulph Gardens. The description states that behind a gloomy Victorian shrubbery there lies a gloomy Victorian mansion and this is definately true. ... read more

Day 15 – Stoke-on-Trent I did a big estate home today. A very popular one. Chatsworth House didn’t open until 11am but buses and cars were rolling in early and filling the place up. I don’t know how but I managed to get near the front of the queue and once in the house everyone takes their time checking every little detail in every room. I passed the crowds two rooms in so I explored the rest of the house by myself. HA! This was the first house where I was allowed to take photos inside and I was so glad. The ceilings are incredible and being by myself for most of it I didn’t have to worry about people being in the way of the camera. The grounds are immaculate with many water ... read more

6 months ago we sat on a train leaving behind the people we love, our jobs and all the anxiety that went into planning and saving for our trip. That feeling of letting go of everything, the feeling of . . . "THIS IS IT!!. . it's just us and our backpacks!!" . . . will stay with me forever. We have gone from the depths of Mumbai in a room with no windows, things crawling across the bed and the beauty of India that is "organized chaos" to a Penthouse apartment over looking Sydney with all that westernized culture has to offer. The journey from Mumbai to Sydney has been humbling, a journey with highs and lows and one that taught us a lot about the world, ourselves and each other. We have been lucky ... read more
