The weather outside today is really nice. It looks like we have brought the Tenerife weather with us.
We have a hire car booked to pick up from Manchester airport for 12 mid-day, but have decided that commencing our journey to Gatwick Airport on Wednesday morning would be better done before then. We thought we would chance our luck and see if we could get the car earlier.
Luckily, the semi grumpy driver from the hotel offered to take us directly to the rental centre, so we did not have to lug all our bags onto the rental centre bus. He sounded like he had already had a busy morning and was being given the run around a little, but a tip soon brought a smile to his face.
We arrived at the rental centre at about 10.00am and they were happy for us to have our car straight away. Luckily we are seasoned travellers, as they seemed to try to sell us anything that they hoped would put the price up. Sorry, but they are trying with the wrong people here. They even tried to convince us that our bags would not fit in our chosen car.
They were proven wrong on that one too. We have a diesel Renault Captura for our journey from Manchester to London Gatwick.
Today, we are heading to Rotherham where we shall spend another night.
We decided against the motorways as today is Easter Friday here in UK and thought they may be busy. As Theresa used to work in this area, we managed to navigate our route on the smaller roads once we were out of Manchester. Some of the scenery was really spectacular for us.
When we arrived at Sheffield, we stopped off at the Meadowhall shopping centre. We have driven past this many times in the past, but this will be the first time stopping here. It is nice that they have so many shops under one roof. We have a few supplies that we are going to need for our six days in UK and also to get us started when we get to Dubai. We managed to get everything that we needed. Final stop was Subway, as it is not somewhere we go very often and today is the last day for the UK portion of the trip where we shall be eating
alone.
The hotel for tonight is the Holiday Inn Express in Sheffield / Rotherham. It is right near the motorway for an easy exit in the morning. Our room is right at the back overlooking the nearby forest, so not too much noise from the road
We are going to spend this evening repacking the bags for the next few days and chilling for a few hours.
At about 7.30pm, we thought it would be nice to have a wander around the few shops opposite the hotel. Unfortunately, when we got out there they were all shut. So we walked about half mile each way to the car garage nearby to buy some fresh milk. Whilst there, we treated ourselves to a cooling McDonalds milkshake etc. each.
A great end for us to our first day back in UK

Etrop Grange
We stayed at Etrop Grange in March, it was being renovated at the time, all the staff were lovely, the food was great but the room was terrible. We had an older guy called George picking us up from the airport, he was nice and carried out bags up the stairs while we checked in. Wouldn't go back there though, we normally stay at the Clayton it's got better rooms and plumbing you don't have to persuade gently to work ?
