Edit Blog Post
Hello,
It has been a while since we have blogged so this one goes back to June in the middle of the summer (which seems such a long time ago now). We made the journey for our first summer music festival and what better than braving the elements in the lush fields at Glastonbury. We started off on the Wednesday for the 3 day music festival in order to get a spot in the fields to camp. The journey that was meant to be 3 hours started off okay with the great news that Kate was accepted for a new job that she had applied for. The job is a full time position at the Haringey Integrated Community Therapy Team. From there she has also successfully been accepted to do her masters degree which is for 2 years so yes we will be staying over here for a little bit longer. So on receiving the good news we were pumped and couldn't wait to get to the festival. However the bus ride that was meant to take 3 hours ended up taking 7 hours!! The bus driver ended getting lost and for some unknown reason that only he will know
he didn't have have a map or a satnav and in the end one of the passengers had to help him out with a map from his i phone. So anyway after that debacle we arrived and to our good fortune we found a great campsite not too far away from the stages and also on a hill so if we had any rain we wouldn't be washed away. That night we had a wander and was simply amazed by how many people there were and the whole size of the thing. At Glastonbury there are around 10 stages including the famous pyramid stage. Around these stages are the camping grounds and also the stalls and themed grounds. The stalls have people selling all types of crafts and wares and also workshops. There is a hippie ground and a quite unbelievable set up called shangri la. Shangri la was a couple of grounds one being a post apocolyptic set up with an underground music scene and the other being a futuristic. Then there was another field called trash city, quite mad-max-esque! But at night these places came to life with music DJ's, fireworks, and fire balls shooting from the sets.
There is no end to the night party's. And while that was amazing at night, buy day we were busy seeing as many live performances as possible. The highlights were definitely Blur, Tom Jones, Rolf Harris, Jamie Cullum, Lily Allen, Lady Gaga (who we saw more of then we bargained for), ladyhawke, and plenty of other more unknown artists. We were really fortunate that it was hot for most of the week, with some rain one night which created a few small mud patches, so the wellies came to god use.
Glastonbury really was one of the most amazing experiences, and for us it's hard to fully explain on paper, so we hope some of the photos help to explain the size of the event, the pure expanse of the fields, the atmosphere day and night, and a glimpse into the fun we had getting dirty and dancing for a week.
Not long after being back in London Mark scored tickets to Oasis who were performing at Wembley Stadium. His design firm had done the graphics for the CD and for the concert so we picked up VIP tickets and had plum seats! It was another brilliant concert,
and our seats gave us the perfect position to be just above the moshing crowd, and when the beats of the big songs came to life, the crowd was all jumping and singing as one. It was really electrifying.
But then, according to Mark, it got even better, because we returned to Wembley again for the U2 concert. This time we were on the pitch in amongst it all, and were quite close to the front. The claw stage which made all sorts of world records was amazing, giving a 360degree stage with pyrotechnics, amazing big screens, boom-bridges and lighting sequences to bring it all together. And of course, it was like a best-of concert, hearing all of the big hits with all of the bells and whistles.
So by now, our ears were overloaded by some of the most amazing moments that we needed to savour what we had done. But that was the lead up to the next very busy time - the re-opening of the Roma B & B! Stay tuned for the next chapter!
