I'm on tour again Off to England, Wales, Scotland Only eight on tour. I had an early start today since I wanted to make sure I made it to the meeting point this morning early and wasn't too sure what Monday morning rush hour would be like. So I popped outta bed at 5:45. Washed up. Went down to put my bag in the storage room. Went to the kitchen to make a couple of quick peanut butter sandwiches for snack. Back to the room to finish packing and then down to reception to check out. Reception was actually closed but the not so friendly security guard helped to check me out. No good morning or how are you doing but "Were you the one in the baggage room and kitchen?" What, he saw it was ... read more

Today ISU paid for us to go to Bath and get in to see the Roman Baths there. It was pretty cool, i finally got to see all of the parts of a classic roman bath that I learned about a long time ago in Latin in high school - I have seem some baths before, but none as extensive as this one. The baths are right over a source of natural hot spring water, so the Romans thought they were a gift from the gods and built an extensive complex for a temple, as well as the monstruous bath house with its many different kinds of pools and rooms, some heated by vents under a raised floor. At the end you got to try a drink of it for 50 pence, although it was a ... read more

How quickly I’ve become a devout fan of traditional English "weekend break" in the countryside!! I spent my Saturday in Bath, Somerset, which is famous for its ancient Roman springs and its popularity amongst the English gentry in the 1800's. Aesthetically, it is a very beautiful city, packed with cream-coloured three-story Georgian buildings, roman pillars, narrow alleys and cobbled pedestrian streets. I personally felt that is also had a certain Olde world, small-town homey-ness to it which was extremely endearing. I adored the colour and architecture of the city. Most of the buildings appear to have been built in the Georgian period, and the outer walls are composed of "ashlar stone", which is a lovely creamy yellow colour, as if the sun's rays have seeped into it and now glow faintly from within. Most of the ... read more

I had decided to go to Bath to take a small break from my course. I enjoy classical music, but I had thought that 2 weeks of it was a bit of an overload. However upon arriving, I found out that it was the international music festival in Bath. I'm walking down the street and there are street acts up and down the street, really cool but not quite what I had in mind. Oh well, when in Rome, or I guess when in Bath. Speaking of Rome, the Roman baths are amazing. Considering that they were made just under 2000 years ago and harnessed the power of the hot springs, its amazing. Makes me think just what we have accomplished since then. I mean, even space crafts are affected by the Romans. In order for ... read more

The strange thing about Bath is that you can't actually swim at the Roman Baths. This is a real shame because it's nice and warm and England is not the warmest of places. I guess it's one of those 'Health & Safety' issues that prevent people in this country from doing a lot of things. We don't want you to get injured, so stay inside and lock your doors. Honestly... Anyway, I've had my rant and feel much better. Bath is a beautiful city. The Roman Baths are the obvious attraction and well worth a look. The highlight of my weekend though was a walking tour called Bizaare Bath, which was fantastic value for only £5. It is incredibly funny and an absolute must if you are lucky enough to find yourself in Bath. Just don't ... read more

We took a day trip outside of London with Golden Tours. My experience with Golden Tours went above and beyond as far as our tour guide, the bus drive, price, trips offered and convenience. I highly recommend Golden Tours. The trip to Bath, Stonhenge, and Windsor Castle seemed like a great way to spend the day. Looking back, I wished we could've spent 2 days in Bath as there really is so much to see! Our first stop was Windsor Castle. Windsor Castle is the largest inhabited castle in the world. It is one of the official residences of HM Queen Elizabeth II. The first castle was built in 1080 by William the Conqueror. Over the centuries many kings have lived at Windsor, adding or altering buildings, and a serious fire in 1992, and the subsequent ... read more

Date: 06.09.2004 Destination: Bath, England Day: 3 Woke up so early (nearly 6am). Today, we are going to Bath. World Heritage Town just 3 hours West of London. We went to Bristol for transit to Bath in order to save money (more than 20pound) but we had to skip Bristol eventhough it is a city worth visiting too. We reached Bath at noon and the whole town was just plain Roman. I mean you can't see any new buildings around, just old ones. They said that the Romans built a city around the hot springs here and it became a famous vacation destination for Romans few thousand years ago and survived until today. We started by going to the information center as usual, to get a map.. Then towards the Roman Bath. The building where the ... read more

Geo: 51.3807, -2.35671We arrived in good shape (although a bit tired), got through customs, and found our way to the car rental counter. It took some very careful engineering by the ladies, but they got all our luggage in, and we were off to Stonehenge. There really isn't much more to it than the big rocks you've all seen pictures of, but it's very cool to be there, looking out over the plains and wondering about the people who made this monument. Windy? Yeah, sure, a little. Cold? I should say so. But cool, nonetheless. The audio guide (which was including in the price of admission), really provided some good info, and a taste of the mystery behind the whole thing. Actually, the price of admission meant no cash out-of-pocket, because this was the first ... read more

We are now in Bath. From the first century AD to the twentieth, people have been drawn to this place to seek comfort, cure and cleansing in the hot water that rises to its heart. What remains today is a remarkable sequence of ancient, medieval and later structures that give testimony to the continuous use of hot water here over nearly 2,000 years.... read more
