Well, I was in Bath. Now I'm back home feeling a bit sorry for myself. Today started off well but has rapidly gone downhill as my stomach started acting more like a rollercoaster than the hills I was riding along - I'm sure that's enough detail for you all!! Luckily for me I'd already planned to meet the parents for lunch so they took pity on me and convinced me a night at home wan't cheating and would make me feel much better. So bless him, my poor hardworking Papa will be up at the crack of dawn again tomorrow to take me back to the exact point I gave up today and I'll be back peddalling away again!
Day 5, Thursday 7th August: Tiverton to Pilton The rest of yesterday went well, although was very long. Somewhere my calculations went vey awry, there was me thinking I was going to have an easy day and by the time I roll into Pilton at 7pm I've done
69.54 miles!! The going was great at least, along canal tow paths and across the Somerset Levels (with the never-nearing Glastonbury Tor always on the horizon). Even the weather was on my side
Scary swan
Everytime I took my camera out the ducks and swans thougt I hadbread. This one was particularly displeased to be fooled by me. with the looming rain clouds staying far enough away to warrant the sun cream being applied for the first time on the trip! It's slightly ironic that I have very red arms from wind and rain burn at the moment, got to love the British summer.
Had my first dog attack - a gorgeous chocolate Lab puppy came bounding up to me and tried to sit in my lap while I was attempting to cycle past! Taunton turned out to be a great lunch stop. Searched for an independant cafe amongst the Starbucks and Costas of this world and stumbled into Cafe Culture where the lovely Phil not only sponsored me but also gave me a panini and smoothie on the house - Cheers Phil! Another thank you has to go out to the fellow cyclist at Bridgewater who helped me to carry my bike over a railway bridge that had gone and got itself built in my path.
The biggest thank you of all though definitely has to go to Sasha and Charlie for their fantastic hospitality last night - Cheers guys for looking after me so well. Anytime you need a pet sitter just let me know!
Day6, Friday 8th August: Pilton to Saltford 33.47 miles
Average speed 9.5mph
3 hrs 28 mins Well I think I've summed up today already. Legs felt like jelly and tummy not happy, neither am I (ahhh). Did go past a place called 'Brass Knocker Bottom' today (actually that could sum things up too - sorry guys!!) Back home for tea and sympathy and a good long sleep. I promise I'm not giving up, not a chance, I was enjoying this until today and I'm definitely going to make it if it kills me - so no taking back of sponsorship money! fxx
