Today we explored Shrewsbury. It is such a photogenic town with its picturesque half-timbered buildings and dramatic abbeys, cathedrals and churches not to mention an attractive bridge or two! We had only just started out this morning when we glimpsed St Mary’s Church appearing to perch atop St Alkmund’s Church when we looked up Fish Street from High Street. With a row of colourful planter boxes on the fence in between it looked beautiful. We continued down towards the Abbey Foregate past some of the multitude of half-timbered buildings. It was hard not to photograph every single one of them! We crossed English Bridge and made our way to Shrewsbury Abbey. The Abbey was founded as a Benedictine Monastery by Roger de Montgomery in 1083 on the site of an existing Saxon church. It was substantially ... read more

This morning we packed the car to head down to Shropshire for a few days. With the accommodation in Shrewsbury pre-booked on the Internet weeks ago we were locked into visiting Shropshire despite Bernie learning last night that the Iron Bridge, the first iron bridge in the world, that he particularly wanted to visit, is currently all wrapped up for conservation works! One evening, a day or so after we arrived, we watched a documentary on the Iron Bridge that Albert had recorded. The documentary also mentioned the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (pronounced Pont - ker - sulth - tay) that was completed in 1805 using the new cast iron techniques that had been used for the first time during the construction of the Iron Bridge that was opened in 1791. Although we had driven past the aqueduct ... read more

Day 2 Confucius he says "They must change often who would be constant in happiness" Well, Confucius was quite right. For us we have had change over the last few weeks. Gabby wouldn't go on the drive - naughty girl!!!! We had to leave her on a neighbours drive whilst we looked at options to get her parked up. First we looked at the pavement - no chance of persuading the council to relay it. If we did the water would have run off into the garden. Then we would have the problem of making the drive level. Not an easy job - it would require a whole shedload of wood to shutter up the drive, tons of hardcore and rather a large load of concrete. OK we could have done it but what would happen ... read more

The words "patience is a virtue "come to mind, Time has that strange habit of taking either a long time to pass or it flies by quickly. Motorhoming has the strange habit of making you sit around doing nothing. Doing nothing but think about holidays you have been on or thinking about holidays you are likely to go on. It is now the dragging of time that comes to the fore as we wait for Gabby. We wanted her early but there was a motorhome show to contend with and all the technicians and all the salesmen were going to be at the show . We were given a date to pick Gabby up and we sat and waited . We waited .............no news of how she was getting on. Had any work been done on ... read more

Country pubs provide a good breakfast. We have a modified “full English”. Our fellow guests have the works. By the size of the “works” its just as well we didn’t. Looks like it will be a great day out. We have some time to explore this part of Cheshire, especially Shrewsbury so we’re on the hunt for the famous biscuit, the Shrewsbury biscuit. Leaving Northwich we drive south through beautiful countryside. It doesn’t take us long before we are driving along roads with signs to the Nantwich Show. Fortunately it is not on until tomorrow and we’ll be in London. Even without the show today the narrow roads are busy. As we enter Shrewsbury we hear about a World Worm Charming Championship to be held in Nantwich. Perhaps we’d better u-turn athough we are not sure ... read more

Hi travel lovers. Here are our latest adventures from the UK. We have completed our second UK house sit at Itchen Abbas (near Winchester - Hampshire) and it was absolutely lovely with just two lovely cats & 5 chickens to care for. Free eggs. We did a little exploring of the local area towns like Wickham and Bishop's Waltham with it's Bishop's Palace. It happened to be the Alresford "Watercress Festival" (3 mile up the road) so we drove over to Ropley and caught the steam train into Alresford and had a few hours enjoying the local fare before heading back on the steam train to pick up our car. Apparently Alresford is the Watercress capitol of the UK because of its chalk beds and crystal clear water. The weather has been spectacular so we were ... read more

Geo: 52.7101, -2.75208 We decided to go to Sudeley Castle, near Winchombe. The family that owns it still lives there. We drove to Winchcombe and headed toward the road to the castle. The road was closed and traffic was diverted. We couldn't find the road to the castle, so we looked at our atlas and found another way to get there on a single track road. Just before we got to a turnoff there was a fallen tree blocking the road. We had to turn around on the single track road and find another way. We ended up on another single track road and made several turns onto other roads. We were lost! We stopped at a road construction site and asked the man if he knew where the castle was. He said go another half ... read more

After five months away, I was back in my adopted home country of the United Kingdom. Except, that it didn't really feel like my home any more. Shorn of my old flat in West Hampstead, in which I lived for six years, being back in London just didn't feel the same. With a job and a flat, I felt part of the fabric of the city - now I felt like an outsider trying to weave myself back into the cloth without a needle. There were many things that made me remember why I love the city so much - the iconic sights, the transport system (yes, I you read that correctly - Londoners often don't realise how lucky they are), the bars and pubs, and the different neighbourhoods - but mostly because of the familiarity ... read more

What a day. Suzy sat on the drive, she only moved a few feet for us to get Gunter the Grunter (our car) out of the garage. Sion got up very early as he had a meeting set with his best friend Woolly. He had never met him before although they had conversed by email for some time. This was going to be a first for him and he was really excited with himself. The thought of trying out the loos and giving them marks out of ten , looking for manholes and sliding down bannisters in Attingham Park really got him and us very excited. Normally I write the emails but for once Sion pushed me out of the way and decided it was his day and he was going to blog. It's me Woolly ... read more

Woolly says – I was so looking forward to my day, finally after months of emails and blogs I would get to meet my bestest friend Sion and his owners . It had taken some planning but Woolly had been counting how many sleeps and had reached levels of hyper activity which required him to sit in the fridge to chill down. Woolly says – I was ready by 6.30am with tusks shining and my new bandana tied neatly, getting Jo and Ian moving took on a whole new level. The drive was lovely as Ollie steamed through the green lush landscapes of England and although I was nervous it didn’t seem to take long to reach Attingham Park. As we pulled Ollie onto the car park I could see Sion jumping up and down in ... read more
