Today we explored Shrewsbury. It is such a photogenic town with its picturesque half-timbered buildings and dramatic abbeys, cathedrals and churches not to mention an attractive bridge or two! We had only just started out this morning when we glimpsed St Mary’s Church appearing to perch atop St Alkmund’s Church when we looked up Fish Street from High Street. With a row of colourful planter boxes on the fence in between it looked beautiful. We continued down towards the Abbey Foregate past some of the multitude of half-timbered buildings. It was hard not to photograph every single one of them! We crossed English Bridge and made our way to Shrewsbury Abbey. Day 2 Confucius he says "They must change often who would be constant in happiness" Well, Confucius was quite right. For us we have had change over the last few weeks. Gabby wouldn't go on the drive - naughty girl!!!! We had to leave her on a neighbours drive whilst we looked at options to get her parked up. First we looked at the pavement - no chance of persuading the council to relay it. If we did the water would have run off into the garden. Then we would have the problem of making the drive level. Not an easy job - it would require a whole shedload of wood to shutter up the drive, tons of hardcore and rather a large load of concrete. Country pubs provide a good breakfast. We have a modified “full English”. Our fellow guests have the works. By the size of the “works” its just as well we didn’t. Looks like it will be a great day out. We have some time to explore this part of Cheshire, especially Shrewsbury so we’re on the hunt for the famous biscuit, the Shrewsbury biscuit. Leaving Northwich we drive south through beautiful countryside. It doesn’t take us long before we are driving along roads with signs to the Nantwich Show. Fortunately it is not on until tomorrow and we’ll be in London. Even without the show today the narrow roads are busy. Geo: 52.7101, -2.75208 We decided to go to Sudeley Castle, near Winchombe. The family that owns it still lives there. We drove to Winchcombe and headed toward the road to the castle. The road was closed and traffic was diverted. We couldn't find the road to the castle, so we looked at our atlas and found another way to get there on a single track road. Just before we got to a turnoff there was a fallen tree blocking the road. We had to turn around on the single track road and find another way. We ended up on another single track road and made several turns onto other roads. We were lost! We stopped at a road construction site and asked the man if he knew where the castle was. What a day. Suzy sat on the drive, she only moved a few feet for us to get Gunter the Grunter (our car) out of the garage. Sion got up very early as he had a meeting set with his best friend Woolly. He had never met him before although they had conversed by email for some time. This was going to be a first for him and he was really excited with himself. The thought of trying out the loos and giving them marks out of ten , looking for manholes and sliding down bannisters in Attingham Park really got him and us very excited.
