Today was a day of reflections. A funeral always brings out the old memories doesn't it? Memories of the person who has passed away and a realisation that relatives are getting fewer and farther between. After the funeral we made the short drive from the crematorium to the Museum of Timekeeping and on this journey my mind flitted back and forwards to school. Mr Hughes my old teacher was small with glasses. Everyone appeared small and wore glasses in the 1960's. He talked about "procrastination being the thief of time" He made me write this 100 times over. I cannot remember why he asked me to write this . I must have done something and I must have been wasting time. He commented on my silver brace which was trying its hardest to bridge the gap ... read more

Having seen all the beautiful exhibits at the Nottingham Show Floral Art. We headed to Southwell, our resting place for the night. The Saracen's Head was once known as the King's Arms, established in the 12th Century. The hotel was rebuilt in the 16th Century. King Charles I famously stayed at the Inn during 1642 when he raised the Royal standard at Nottingham Castle to signal the start of the first Civil War. During the Civil War he paid a final visit on his last night of freedom after he escaped from London. The next day he surrendered in Kelham to the Scottish Commissioners. In 1651 the name of the hotel was changed to 'The Saracen's Head'. Believed to be an insult to the monarchy , due to the story that Charles I was beheaded by ... read more

We arrived back home from Yorkshire and County Durham. Suzy possibly now could get off the drive . The concrete arrived to complete the drive . It was a hot and muggy day. Not the sort where you want to or need to concrete a drive. It arrived too dry and in the wind and the sun it went off . It does not look pretty but at least all we need now is for it to dry and we should be able to move Suzy. She needs to move . Just like us she feels dejected. Just like us she wants the wind in her sails. Just like us she wants to wake to a new view every day. Only 53 days and we will be truly on the road again and in search of ... read more

The upper deck of the bus was in full voice. You might be thinking I was on my way to yet another football experience, but nothing could be further from reality. The bus rocked not with enthusiastic alcohol fuelled male voices, but with the sound of hymns. A group of older ladies were struggling to contain their excitement, as they headed towards Southwell Minster. Music books at the ready, they burst into song. The lower deck was probably very confused about events. It had been a strange journey all round, but the Other Half says I am not allowed further on the “nail varnish” so we’ll say no more about that! We alighted at Westgate and walked along towards town. There are a number of impressive residences along Westgate and Church Street. However, the upkeep on ... read more
