So last night as I was desperately trying to fall asleep but failing due to too much coffee. However it did not matter because at around 1 am this morning my bed started starting shaking as though someone was standing at the end shaking the bedpost as hard as they could. I of course was freaking out to myself because I wasnt sure what was going on or if I was just imagining things because I was so tired. Not only was the bed shaking like it was possessed but I could hear the walls shaking as well and our desks bumping against them. I decided I was just going to lay in bed and try to calm back down when I hear a couple of the women in our flat talking. So i joined them ... read more

On Friday Siri and I decided to go and check out more of Nottingham, so we went to the caves and Galleries of Justice. The caves are all sandstone and were man made. They were used as a tannery until the 1600s. The tannery part of the caves were really rediscovered until they were going to build the Broadmarsh Shopping Center. During the Victorian era some of the caves were used as cellars and living areas for the not so wealthy. During WWII the caves were used as bomb shelters and we participated in an air raid as part of our tour. There are over 400 caves under the city center in Nottingham though most are pretty small and used as cellars if they are used at all. What was really cool was that a building ... read more

I feel a bit like I'm cheating writing this from the comfort of my own room but it's just a dry run! I don't understand the codes at all so it's all going to be plain type from here on in! If you're reading this it must be working - yey! Not much else to tell apart from only 10 days to go now, the packing is half done, I'm well and truely immunised, have enough medication to start my own pharmacy and I've finally extracted my visa from the Mexican consulate after only 4 visits to London and in 2 different locations. I'm sure the latter can't be normal! As I have little to tell travel related (apart from Spice Girls shennanigans at the weekend) I'll leave it there for today and the next entry ... read more

its kinda disappointing that everyone here speaks english. im also getting used to being able to flush toilet paper down the toilet. arrived into london fri nite and went straight to nottingham on a coach. flight was delayed by about 3 hrs still affected by the landing incident at heathrow, so luckily i had given a lot of leeway between the arrival time and the coach i booked way in advance in order to score the £1 fare. good old notts, i hardly recognise much. mustve spent too much time on campus when i lived here! there isnt really much to say, not getting up to anything exciting. im catching up with everyone and only have one set of clothes to wear in this climate so im feeling pretty untrendy, and i dont like ££££s at ... read more

I spent Christmas and New Years in Nottingham. I flew from Germany to East Midlands where Kim picked me up and we took the bus into Nottingham. To give a bit of background: Last summer I spent two months living in Nottingham at my uncle’s house where his god-daughter Kim, was living. We became friends nearly instantly and thus, she picked me up from the airport and we bussed into Nottingham, where from last summer’s adventures, I knew my way around. It was like coming home, granted, home had upgraded, with a shiny new City Square complete with million dollar fountain and ice rink, but nonetheless, home. All the girls were dressed to the 9’s for the official “Friday night out before Christmas” wearing heels and sparkling dresses, and the guys ... were not Swedish. :D ... read more

Well, my Christmas vacation starts today. For break, the flat gets locked up and we get to go travel Europe. This evening I leave for Bratislava, Slovakia and tomorrow I will fly into Vienna. After Vienna I will be traveling to Krakow and Warsaw, Poland and then meet my family in Berlin. From Berlin we are traveling through Germany to Salzberg, Austria and then I am heading back up into Germany to spend a few days with Inna - a friend from camp. So, you probably won't hear from me for a while. When I get back, I will post plenty of pictures! Love Erin... read more

Thanksgiving baking was not enough for us. For our Christmas party Monday, seven out of the ten of us decided to bake Christmas cookies or other treats. I was the first to start on Saturday since the cinnamon sticks had to sit in the freezer overnight, but by Sunday there were two or three of us all cooking at once. After church, I started on the cut-outs, which was a lot of fun, and then we got to frost them. Needless to say, we have enough cookies to feed an army. Even Alex got in on the baking making three different kinds of cookies. On Monday, then, the ten of us and Storm and Erin had a wonderful Christmas party. The entire kitchen table was lined with cookies and other treats. By the end of the ... read more

Tonight was the long awaited Christmas Dinner with the Living History Society. The dinner was at the Bell in City Center; the only problem was that I didn't know exactly where it was. Luckily Matt was standing outside the Bell in his chain mail, so that was a bit of a give away. Dinner was really good and quite an experience with many people wearing their kits (Living History clothing). The only problem with the main course was that everything was swimming in gravy, but I was hungry enough that it all tasted good. I did not have the Christmas pudding for dessert, instead I had chocolate cake - wonderful. I did find out that there will be no more battle practice until after Christmas break - I can't wait!... read more
