One Week To Go….. Do you have trouble packing for a holiday which will last 2 weeks? Try packing for 2 years…whilst bearing in mind that everything you take, you must carry around on your back. And I’m a girl….trust me…that makes it harder…. I have gone with the safe option of taking clothes that I am not attached to, and which cost about £4, because I am certain that the malls in New York City and Orlando alone will be calling out to feed my shopping addiction. Not to mention Harry Potter World, and the millions of craft stalls and cute little shops I am bound to encounter everywhere else. I’m relying heavily on being able to send things back home. The good part is that my backpack is not even half full once I ... read more

Hello!! So I've just returned from a trip I've been wanting to take for a very very long time. I finally got myself to England where I stayed with friends for about 5 days. It was absolutely glorious!! I thought I would have some trouble adjusting to British dialect but I didn't have any trouble at all! In a way England actually felt for me like it was the closest thing to home I've felt in months. Don't get me wrong I love Sweden but it is VERY different from Canada in many ways. Namely: the language and the food. I should start with a quick re-cap of my travel trouble. Due to a bit of drama the night before I departed (and very little sleep because of this) I packed late and ended up missing ... read more

David here....... Just a quick update for you all. The last few days have been a mad scramble to get everything done in the house and to get round and see family and friends before we set off for Thailand tomorrow. The packing for the trip is now pretty much done and we have managed to squeeze in just about everything we need. The house is now in the process of being cleaned from top to bottom and we are readying ourselves for one final night in our home. Special mention must go to Marie and James who invited us round to their house last night, and provided us with a Christmas meal, complete with Crackers. The food was divine and was very much appreciated. It will be long remembered on our trip and was a ... read more

Had a nice slow start to the day yesterday....and it got faster from there! Kel took me on a tour of the Notts county....started off at Newstead Abbey for a few hours for a look around the statley home of Lord Byron and a meander thru the gardens...very impressive! ...then off to Rufford Abbey which was built in the 1400's but just a shell now (those monks know how to party!) and then off to Sherwood Forrest for a walk down the paths and dodging arrows (true story! got ambushed by some 10 year olds with toy bows and arrows!) so took shelter at the Major Oak which legend has it was where some bloke named Robyn used to hang out... Was nearly 4pm by this stage and hanging out for some 'snap' (as they call ... read more

French Living Yes, actually that's what you can call this place where I'm at. It's like Brussel in Belgian, but this time it's a enclave within the city, because french is all you hear. Travelling went smoothly and I stayed at Stephane and Louisse's place where we watched the football. The day after I started working in the business, firstly by sorting out some computer stuff. Today I rounded it all up and did some working in the shop/cafe, followed by doing the pots in the evening. I've met some nice colleagues most of them are French and one Lithuanian and Polish guy. Well in order that I've met them there is Audrey, Audrius, Frederic, Alex, Jeremy, Alex, Christian and I think I'm forgetting two. Will be completed shortly. The work in the shop is at ... read more

After deciding that the Impreza would tow the caravan without any bother there were just two modifications required - An exhaust that would give more than 2 inches of ground clearance and a tow bar. We already had a tow bar that just needed fitting so that meant a trip to Nottingham to pick up an exhaust that would do the job. By chance Daryl needed to visit IKEA to check out some furniture so off we went to kill two birds with one stone. I know it’s wrong but I never get bored of looking at strangely named Swedish home products. (I am secretly looking forward to going to IKEA in Melbourne to get bits to kit out the campervan, even though I know they will have exactly the same stuff as over here, but ... read more

Panorama The line up near the centre of shopping district in Nottingham Day 19-21 Nottingham today by train-bus-train. They are working on the Birmingham line so the trip will take a bit longer but no less efficient. Again, an easy transition from pack mule to wandering tourist with camera. I meet the locals at the Igloo Hostel. There are about 12 semi permanent residents here and it has a different feel from the normal hostel. With all the various characters in this scenario it's more like Faulty Towers. Maud is the lady in charge and she likes a good chat "Oh, I know" but if it's information you need, she calls on Kevin (a British Indian or Indian Brit) who can tell you all about the people and the places to visit for the best deals. ... read more
It's a little known fact that Robin Hood was a snappy Tango dancer.
It's like a crime scene. The outline shows where the walls to the Castle were before the ambulance hauled it away.
