All right! Wow! eeeee ... ok! I didn't have the time to write earlier because things went pretty fast during these last 10 days. When I think about the last time I gave some news in Belfast, it seems it was months ago. I've seen a lot, learned way more than I expected and met some really great people along the way (and since the beginning). Life is just sweet and generous to me right now. J'ai essayer le met Ecossais ... read more

If nothing else happened this entire day just eating the local farm breakfast sausage Kathryn cooked up for me would've made this day special. Absolutely the best breakfast link ever. The Gallery has won numerous awards throughout the UK for its "Deliciously Yorkshire" breakfast. In fact, they had just won the "Visit England Breakfast Award 2009/10". Quite a feat in a land with so many B&B's in every town and village. Being not nearly as adventurous as Tyler who had the venison banger, I was more than thrilled with my country sage sausage. Additionally we filled our bellies with perfectly toasted bread served with fresh butter and homemade preserves, Eggs Benedict, baked beans, grilled tomato and more of that super thick and chewy English bacon that I've grown to love. Once again I washed it all ... read more

Ok, so my last official entry from England, I had briefly mentioned that my dad had visited me. He was on his way to India for a couple weeks, and he came to see me in Leeds for a weekend. He met all of my friends, I showed him around Leeds, and we took a day trip. The date is a little shaky, but I think that we went to see York on Sunday, November 8th. The first batch of pictures are from me, then I added some interesting pics my dad took, too. ... read more

Tuesday 25 August The start of the Britain and Ireland Explorer. Wake Up 6:15am Bags out and Breakfast 6:45am Meet in the Lobby 7:30am It’s always an exciting morning starting a tour. I love looking around at breakfast and wondering who will be with you. We met John, our tour director. He seemed like a friendly Scotsman! He had a very lovely accent that was very easy to listen to. We hopped onto the bus and I met Jo, who I had already talked to through email. John met my expectations of an Insight Tour guide. His knowledge base is huge. We had a lovely drive throught he English countryside. We detoured at one point and had a great view of Banbury… the home of the nursery rhyme, “Ride a Cockhorse”. It’s actually right on the ... read more

We awake today to the first rain we have experienced in Lancashire. In lieu of a day at the cricket we decided to visit the historic walled city of York, with a detour through Leeds to try to sort out a refund on the cricket tickets. As we drove east the rain continued until we crested the dividing range when it stopped. This is the highest motorway in England and the views would have been wonderful, except for the drizzle mist on the way up blocking the view. Leeds is not the prettiest city I have driven through, in fact it looks very grubby, but to someone who lives or works in Leeds I am sure it has a charm and appeal. Given we will be travelling for the next month, the staff at the Yorkshire ... read more

From Two Huge Cathedrals To The Centre Of Industrial England Leaving all the wild parties behind, I was headed for the quieter countryside again. Plans for today were to catch a quick train to Durham to check out the Cathedral and Castle before getting through to York for a couple of nights. Durham is just a short trip from Newcastle, only about fifteen minutes on the train, and the main purpose to visit is perched on top of the hill in the centre of the town. Durham Cathedral was originally built in the 11th Century but suffered major damage during the Reformation in the 16th Century. Now days, most of the stained glass dates back to the Victorian period but the building is impressive none the less. It houses the tombs of a couple of important ... read more

Thursday saw us leaving our billets at St. Aidan’s and moving on to Yarm School, about ten miles south-west of Middlesborough. After departing early in the morning we proceeded to travel to York, an old city which has been inhabited since Roman times and has been an important stronghold for many civilisations. We were given the instructions to be back at the bus by 3:30 and therefore had a free roam for the rest of the day. We split up and walked around the city. My group, which consisted of Skinner, Ben, Jake P, Night, Glasper, Dan Sull, Ian and Jake Argent went up the tower of the ministry, a staggering 278 steps (according to Ian) on a spiral staircase which was just 60 cm wide. Once at the top we had sweeping views of ... read more

Yesterday, we left Durham and made our way to York, via Whitby. We stopped off at Whitby Abbey, the site of an Anglo-Saxon abbey. When we left Durham, there were a few clouds in the sky. By the time we arrived in Whitby, it was wet and misty. Our first taste of true English weather! We were fortunate enough to be at the abbey at the right time, because when we had finished our exploration, more of the ruins were shrouded in fog. We then drove on to York in the afternoon. We did not do much. We visited the historic laudrette in York before going out for dinner. Today, we spent all of the morning exploring the Minster. We walked through the Museum Gardens between our place and the old city, where we saw our ... read more

It had to happen. The dry weather had to break. And today it has!! Well actually its not that bad just a little light rain and its not going to stop us taking a road trip to York a city we have heard so much about for its style. With all the goodies we brought at the market day yesterday we could hardly not have a full English and so it was,Eggs, bacon, black pud etc etc.We left on the road so full we didn't think we would need any lunch. We took the A65 to just outside Skipton and then switched the A59 where the rain actually sopped. We had thoughts about visiting Bolton Abbey but decided that we would be best to make the most of getting to York as soon as we could and hopefully before the rain ... read more
