The End. That’s it - all done. Woke up this morning and had the strange feeling of not having to walk anywhere today. Both happy and sad at the same time. Well happy should really be relief - can now give the feet a bit of a rest. The rest of the body held up reasonable well, but could also do with some rest I guess. Sad for a number of reasons. Firstly, we have had the most amazing time exploring the North of England and some of the sights we’ve seen and the vistas we’ve been privileged to experience have been epic. Secondly, a quite bizarrely, I think we’ll miss the walking - time to clear the head and mentally relax for some of the day has been great. But most of all I’ll be ... read more

I usually like the idea of Scarborough more than the reality. As I watched the rain lash down on the front of the bus, I suspected today was no exception. It was Easter Saturday and the weather should have turned by now. Instead the clocks might have changed for summer, but nobody had told the man in charge of global temperatures. The rain turned to sleet between Whitby and Cloughton and snow was forecast for Bank Holiday Monday. The start of the school holidays had prompted my decision to buy an All Day bus ticket. £8 and you can catch any Arrivabus in the North East. The area between Newcastle and Scarborough was now within my reach, although the timetables will force you to spend literally all day on the bus to achieve that distance. The ... read more

So here it was the final day of walking! It seemed like another lifetime ago that we had first met our treking group and guides in St Bees, it even seemed like years ago that we had sung happy birthday to Judy; now it was with mixed emotions I prepared myself for the final day of our Coast to Coast trek. I was feeling sad because soon these new friends I had made would all be going their separate ways, busy with their own lives and careers and I would be going back to my ‘normal’ life too; I didn’t want this experience to end, not from the social point of view at least although if I ever see another hill I’m likely to go into shock! By now Pete and I had a great routine ... read more

Friday, August 2nd—We departed at 10:00am with a successful journey to Scarborough by 3:00 pm. We set up and walked to the cliffs and down to the rocky beach. Saturday, August 3rd—We bought a Merlin Pass which allows us to get into 31 sites across Britain and decided on some of our stops in order to make use of our purchased passes. Thus, a trip the Scarborough Aquarium was our first stop of the day, which was on the south side of Scarborough. Nice aquarium with Becca’s favorite being the seals, Gabe’s favorite being the Nautilus, and Ben’s favorites, all of the sharks! After, we took a train ride (small open-air steam train) over to the north side where we stopped at a local grocery store and then went to the beach and made lunch (Drea ... read more

Geo: 54.2801, -0.402401Scarborough was always a resort we came to for a day trip when I was a child. Later when my parents retired there, we used to take both our kids there too. My daughter still thinks of Scarborough whenever she hears seagulls as here they must be the loudest in the world. The hotel we stayed in was surprisingly good and had a lovely large modern bedroom with a huge bathroom ( Londesborough room). Breakfast was freshly cooked to order and there was no microwave or tinned mushrooms involved, but instead a huge plate of everything you could think of. The fried bread which I never get at home was particularly good. The waitress also remembered that we like lemon and honey with our tea. It was so nice to once more be able ... read more

So I just came back from a short break in Scarborough. Now for those that know me, they will know how much I love Scarborough and its surrounding areas. I used to take family holidays there growing up so the place holds a lot of special memories for me. So anyway my sister and I did a LOT of walking and visited the Sea Life Centre, played some crazy golf, took a long walk along the coast and we also went to Whitby for the day. Unfortunately due to mist I didnt take ay pics in Whitby...I did however get a very cool Anchorman tshirt :D ... read more

I felt so frumpy today. I'm sure you can all relate to those days when you just don't feel good in anything you have. To be honest, I've neglected myself. After a good breakfast and a few cups of tea, I ventured into town in search of things to beautify myself. Bright pink nail polish, divine smelling body lotion and a body scrub. Back home I had a luxurious bath, making sure to primp and prime myself, well, for myself. With Valentines Day coming up, I was reminded that it is important to feel and look good, not only for the one you love, but more importantly for yourself. I forgot that while we've been travelling and waiting for news on India. So today was for me. I have pink toe nails and finger nails and ... read more

Our holiday on holiday in Edinburgh was great. We had a lazy mornings at the hotel followed by walks around the old streets of Edinburgh. We visited Edinburgh Castle, shopped at all the touristy shops (for me of course) and managed to climb Arthur's Seat. Not an easy feat when I thought I was climbing the smaller hill and was not mentally prepared to climb the HUGE one. Ok, so it wasn't that big, but it was cold (she says with a sulky face). But it was a beautiful view of the city from the top. We lugged our bags to the train station and caught the train to Scarborough. I love going on the train! =) Gordon has been at work this past week; and I've been making myself at home. Gordon travelled to Wombourne ... read more
