Hello World! This is the update for my future updates. I do apologize for falling so far behind on my blogging-- I just got so caught up in the travel and living in England! Anyway, I'll be retro-dating blog updates from my travels and first few weeks in the United Kingdom over the course of the next few days (Yes Kels, truly the next few days). As a general note, I love England (Long Live the Queen!) and everything British. Except certain words. To me, it will always be eggplant. Hope you like the series of updates! P.S. Please get skype and add me as your friend so I can talk to you all for free!!! Miss you :)... read more

So it's Saturday, and because there isn't anything better to do (besides study) and there isn't any American Football anywhere, TV or otherwise, I decided to take a walk. First off, I took a few pictures of the outside of my flat and the square to show you all a little bit more of the campus. Then, I headed out around the lake (with my camera this time)! It was really nice to go out there, turn on my iPod and tune out for a while. It was like a walking nap.... read more

This week was the kick-off of two of my societies, RAG (Raise and Give) and ISS (International Students Society). The RAG social was Monday night, we met in the pub on campus wearing our charity shop outfits (it was a "fancy dress" function). We spent 1/2 an hour asking for donations for Sue Ryder Care, which helps out terminally ill patients, then it was on to the festivities. We paired up and had a three-legged race. But this wasn't your ordinary three-legged race because it went from the pub on campus, clear to a pub in town! We rode the bus taped together (getting up to the top of the double-decker was interesting). After arriving at the first pub, we were cut apart and a more traditional pub crawl began. We went to a total of ... read more

Well today I got my first look at England outside of UEA. I went on a trip set up by the International Office to show us visitors around. Our first stop of the morning was at a "Roman town." This "Roman town" was a sheep pasture. There wasn't a single bit of ruins aside from some small sections of wall in a couple of areas. So that was a little bit of a waste of time, but that's ok. The next stop was near Wroxham. This is where the Broads are. The Broads are a series of lakes and swamps and such that were formed in the 1200s. This part of the country was where peat mining took place. They dug peat (icky half decomposed plants) out of the ground, dried it, and burned it like ... read more

Ok- so I am loving being here at UEA. Everything is great, my classes, my room, my flatmates, etc. But there are three things that are quite unfortunate/annoying. 1) Fire Alarms. The bulk of the student body has been here for 6 nights and there has already been 3 fire alarms in my building. And no, they don't happen at convenient times. They happen at 2:30 am! As many of you know (Bob especially) that this is way past my bedtime. I am always sound asleep in my little bed under my "duvet" and have to rip myself out of bed, find warm clothes, find my keys, and go outside. Not Cool. 2) No Varsity Sports. In the United Kingdom, there are no intercollegiate athletics. I asked a guy about this and he said, "You know ... read more

I have been living at UEA for a week now and I am loving it. I have flatmates now and they are all really cool. Except for one girl who we never see. But you're bound to get one of those in every crowd. We all take turns cooking and we go out to the club and the movies together, it's a lot of fun. I have been to all my classes and they are all going to be really good. My professors seem to be good and the coursework isn't going to be too incredibly difficult. It is set up that all courses have lectures and seminars. The lectures are everyone taking the class in a big room with the prof. talking. The seminars are less than 20 students in a discussion based setting. This ... read more

Well it is official. I am at UEA and settled in quite nicely (and by nicely I mean I have internet in my room :). My room is wonderful (way better than BG). I don't have any flatmates yet. They'll move in either tomorrow or Sunday. The campus is pretty nice, it has its pretty spots and its ugly ones as well. My hall is nice and close to the center of campus, it's just about a 3 minute walk to the square. I am pretty much fully rested from my journey. I will start backlogging some of the places I visited and upload pictures in the next day or so. ... read more

Hey all, Like Future Radio i'm currently conducting a little test transmisison. My writing this should result in a complex series of electronic events ocurring, which i do not understand but will (hopefully) result in an email appearing in your inboxes (though we will see what spam filters have to say about that). I am not sure what this email will contain but it should direct you here. To what is going to become the online record of my life over the next 16 months. Most should know i am finally putting my sandals, backpack and mosquito repellent on and heading out into the big place we call the world. If you'd like to keep updated with my trials and tribulations, hear my random mutterings and mumblings, or just look at some pretty pictures then this ... read more

So...here we are back in the UK! We have been a little bit lazy updating this blog...we said to each other 'Oh, we only updated it the other day, in Austria'...yes, that was nearly 2 weeks ago! Doesn't time fly when you are having fun! And having fun we are! So, we'll start from where we left off, in Austria. The secret activity Sarah was up to that afternoon was...paragliding! This involves strapping yourself to a parachute and a tandem instructor and throwing yourself off a perfectly good mountain in the Alps! All of this madness gives you a fantastic view of the scenery and a great story for the bar later on! I had a ball and would do it again in a heartbeat. Needless to say, Mum and Dad were more than a ... read more
