All about for the Magical Mystery Tour!!
I was finally able to sleep in for once. I went down to see what the breakfast was going to be that the hotel was offering. For about £8 you had a choice of undercooked bacon, hash brown triangles, baked beans, toast, bagels, large pork sausage, somewhat runny scrambled eggs, and various cereals. Juice, tea, or coffee were the beverages. Typical English breakfast. So, I decided to walk up the street for about 5 minutes and grab a bite to eat at McDonalds. Yes, again! I have eaten more at McDonald's in the past 3 days than I have in America for the past 2 years! I grabbed a biscuit sandwich and a melon fruit bag (McDonalds offer various bags of fruit). I headed back to the hotel to catch up on some blogging.
The Magical Mystery Tour was about 3 years. We saw all four of the birthplaces and/or childhood homes of each of the Beatles. Strawberry Fields is a wooded area that you can't walk in but they have a gate painted where you take the pictures and people have written on the walls. John used to hide in the trees and spy on the girls who attended
a school for unwed mothers on the other side of the field. Penny Lane is an street as well as a neighborhood area for a bus stop. We saw the roundabout, the barber shop, and the bank all in the same section. We also saw the church where John and Paul were first introduced by a mutual friend. We heard a lot of stories about the Fab Four as we toured the city.
I then went to the Beatles Story museum. It was set up as a time line with a bit of who influenced the Beatles in music. It was interesting, although I didn't use the section by section audio tour. There was a second part at another location on the other side of Albert Dock off of Gower Street. It was depicting the British Invasion of America, so other bands were also featured along with the Beatles.
Afterwards, I walked back to my hotel along the docks. The city was having its annual Mersey River Festival with various boats and water sports activities being performed in the water. I could see all of it from my window of the hotel. I took a nap and was
up and out to see another performance at the Cavern Club. This time the show started at 9:15. There was a video montage during the beginning and during each costume break. The songs were pretty much the same as the night before. The costume changes were not exactly what the Beatles wore, but something close to them. It was a nice time. I walked home again and got to the hotel just before it started to rain.
