Me
This is me, pretty much an island girl, love watersports, writing, photography, parties and bbq's with friends My name is Bella and i am about to move country from a tiny island called the Isle of Wight, to the French Alps, Morzine.
Im going to be a chalet 'girl'/ worker (y'know for the PC people out there) and try desperately to avoid breaking anymore bones, getting a 'chalet bum' and learn how to ski!
With 18 days till i get on the coach to France, i've been getting the same three phrases said to me anytime my imminent journey comes up in conversation.
'You must be SO excited!?' "You must be VERY nervous' 'I'm SO jealous' It's getting a little....well. Repetitive answering these people back....
Now, don't get me wrong I'm extremely excited to go, and extremely nervous to be moving country too!
(
I've lived away from home before but only across the Solent from my little island, hardly a giant step!)
The thing is; when people say they're jealous of me for this job, i just don't quite know how to respond....maybe it's just me, but if serving tiny food and champagne to toffs is their idea of heaven, I'd be certain something
Ventnor Beach
Im from this tiny little island in England. it's pretty and i'll miss it has been put in the local water supply. ew.
Then again, i suppose they're only thinking of the non stop ski trip this job means. or should mean....
Even though it's my first season, i know some people who know first hand, that working in the alps is no easy feat, it's hard work and early starts through to late finishes interspersed with some skiing and partying.
Im prepared for that, even though I'm a terrible cleaner and the closest i've been to skiing is on a dry slope at Calshot activity centre at the ripe old age of 12, when i was bricking it because the bunny slope was 'too steep' (and by bunny slope i mean about 3 ft incline...)
After that, i suppose dappling with a skateboard on a snowy day could be a closer experience? (trucks and wheels removed obviously) i skated/ or rather slid pathetically down about 6 ft of snow (minimum incline) and subsequently fell on my arse.
So why prey tell would someone like me, want a job in the alps like this? One word. Travel. Now
Morzine-My Destination
Looks like a cute little place you may be saying
"Travel? but it's just one place!" Not when you look at the big picture,
The Porte du Soleil region has plenty of slopes and places to explore, but that's not all of it. This Job is the first of many stepping stones to travelling my way around the world. As a kid i always watched
Eliza Thornberry travelling around with her family in the "Commvee" vehicle, i was in awe. That was the life i wanted (albeit the ability to talk with animals forgotten now....sort of) i've never lost sight of the fact there's an incredible wealth of places to explore in this world.
So why not me? I have the idea in my head that i can work my way around the world. Learn new things, languages, cultures, immerse myself each time. it's not a career plan like so many of my friends have, but then i didn't take the usual route,
(tried to, realised it wasn't for me!) So instead of crippling debt, I'm going to go and work, and enjoy myself of course!
So right now, I'm about to begin packing for my
6 month stay in the French Alps of Morzine. I'll be there till May, and hopefully i'll fit in some skiing in amongst all the cleaning, baking and (hopefully!) some partying too! I really hate packing. I'm terrible at it and always forget the main things....
lets just hope i remember my passport.... One slight issue I'm having at the moment is that
i broke my wrist (
well cracked is a better word) back in september, so I'm worrying like mad if my wrists will snap on my first time on the slopes
(here's hoping they don't- touch wood!) anyway it's November, i've been out of cast for 3 weeks, doc says I'm healing really well but just in case, i grabbed some wrist guards to give them a little more support when I'm practising.
Okay well it's late and i have some ski videos to watch.... Night! xx
