01 June 2008 (must be my birthday !!) Hi Folks ! The bright weather of yesterday has been replaced by the grey gloom that has dominated much of this trip. Aim of today is to sweep through the rest of southern Herefordshire and arrive at the CACC Hereford site by mid-afternoon. Note that the site is not actually in H but some seven miles to the east near the village of Tarrington. First visit was to Abbey Dore which is a curious feature ….. Many of the parishes in this area have absurdly large churches for the size of the community but Abbey Dore is by far the largest in this category. Founded as a Cistercian Abbey in the twelfth century the exterior certainly has a monastic feel although there is a confusion of architectural styles. ... read more

31 May 2008 Hi Folks This was a quite delightful day - possibly the best so far. Having finally escaped the clutches of Gloucestershire I quickly immersed myself in the delights of Herefordshire - a county I have not previously visited. For those of you who are not clear on where this is … it is between the English Midlands and the Welsh county of Powys and so geographically is transitional between the Midland plain and the Cambrian Mountains. If I had any doubts that this was border country then they quickly disappeared on arrival in Hay-on-Wye the night before. Now I thought that Hay was in England but the street signs are in both languages - which of course makes for even larger signs cluttering up the place and spoiling the view. Do we really ... read more

We were set free for the weekend to do what we wished, and, after initally planning a trip to London, a few of us set off on a road less travelled. We were headed to the famous little town of Hay on Wye, where there are many unique vintage bookstores. After two hours on the train we stopped in Hereford, planning to take up a one hour bus ride in the morning. I absolutely love taking trains. In southern California, I take the train often to Orange County, Santa Barbara, or even Anaheim. However, in an effort to make my travelling case a little lighter, I left my ipod nano and the book I planned to read. Considering that the ipod is only a few ounces, I was moderately teased for my line of reasoning. So, ... read more

July 30th - Dallas airport Our flight was delayed to Dallas due to the rainy weather. We have to either spend the night in Dallas or fly to Chicago now and depart tomorrow night. We pick Chicago as we love the city, especially Wicker Park area. Bill and I are kind of cranky as we are so tired from wedding events and packing at last minute. Those who know us well knew that would happen…ha! At first we are told that they would get us a hotel room in Chicago, which pleased Bill greatly. However, the second agent said no as American Airlines did not control the weather. In this guy’s ENTIRE two years, they have never given a hotel room to customers who have missed their flights due to the weather. Well, this did not ... read more

Have both been shopping for appropriate gear, light weight dual purpose clothes and decent hiking boots are a must. Also got some “Steve Irwin” shorts and “Skid” decided he just had to have a hat, get a load of these pictures…… Have we gone over the top or do we really look the part? Will be going hiking, armed with a box of Elastoplast next weekend on the Malvern Hills to break those boots in…… So if you see a couple of oldies limping along, don’t laugh too much……… ... read more
