So i went to Stamfords in town and now have a National Geographic political map of the world and now it is firmly stationed on my bedroom wall and already has map pins in it....lol So now the Grand Tour HQ is officially open, the Queen couldn't make it and i couldn't afford the Hoff's wage demands and i couldn't stretch to a red tape and scissors..... lol I also have the Grand Tour Aide memoir/ Purple file.........which im putting together with country guides and maps and visa information etc. Everyone i tell about the tour seems to be pretty impressed and the whole age thing crops up...oh i wish i had done that when i was younger!..........case in point is that age is just a number and if you want to travel people, then just go ... read more

I had mentioned in an earlier blog my Friend Paul and his wife Gina who are having a ball in Japan....well they have been keeping tabs on my blog and Gina provided the following snippet of info on the whole cash card debate:- "Read in your blog about the post office card - don't do it!! there are loads out there and the one we've ended up with is from www.cashplus.co.uk it's a mastercard gold card and the charges are less than that on the post office card and if you have online bankng with your bank you can transfer money directly onto it from there. also have a look at www.splashplastic.co.uk that's only a meastro card so not sure if it would be any good but the charges on there are almost nothing!! whichever ... read more

So now we are in April, my mind turns to my Aussie working holiday visa and my New Zealand working holiday visa, the reason i need to get these visa's now is because they both have an age limit for issuing. Basically the Aussie and New Zealand visas can only be issued to peeps between 18-30, however once you have the visa you can enter the country ok,the bad news is i am turning 31 on the 18th June this year and so i need to get both visas before i turn 31 and then i have a year to enter the country's and get the clock ticking on these visas. Basically both visas allow you to enter and exit as many times as you want as long as you enter the country before the 12 ... read more

Well its back round to Easter again, maybe its an age thing?..........but it only seems yesterday it was Christmas 2006 and now it is Easter. But on the upside it means the year will spin past i shall be on my Grand Adventure...........it started off as a Trip..........but one of my friends on Couch Surfers said it was more epic than a trip.................so i renamed it for her and well it does sound quite awesome.........i can say to people now.....hey im going on a Grand Adventure. Now i have no car (cost cutting for my Adventure), i had to suffer/enjoy the joys of British public transport, although truth be told, the trauma i expected did not materialize...............wow has Great British transport improved?.........perhaps i just had a good run and im not holding my breath for the return ... read more

Well today started off by answering questions on my ebay and checking out my potential profits and after i take off fees and postage i think i have made about a £150, which is good, as i went to Boston today and i bought some Salomon sandals for my Grand Tour and a Craghoppers waterproof jacket. The jacket normally retails between £120-£100 and i got for a steal at £37 and its in a khaki colour which will go with my other khaki/camo clothing........lol (My friend Craig keeps ribbing me about my camo and khaki stuff) and the Salomon sandals are normally £40 and got them for £16.99. My spending stop their....i seem to have a thing for hats and i got myself a new rip curl hat today......but it wasn't too indulgent as it was ... read more

Just realized this morning thats now April, another month gone and another month closer to my Grand Adventure,it was originally a trip, but some friends on the Couch Surfing site said it was too much to be called a trip. So its now officially my Grand Adventure, i was out with friends last night in the Northern Quarter in Manchester city center and so im feeling a little worse for wear this morning. I think minimizing for a trip just shows how much value ourselves in the west put into materialistic things and how we waste money. I am selling more stuff on eBay and the fact i still have stuff to sell on eBay goes to show how much time and money i have wasted on stuff that i have been used or worn once. ... read more

Here we are, two passionate people in search of an adventure. This a story taking us from our little house in Manchester to far flung and wonderful places that we had so far only dreamed about. It's a story where we find out more about ourselves as individuals and where our limits may or may not be as well as story of two people coming closer together than they thought possible. Unlike many stories on film or in books, and strangely you may think having read the previous couple of sentences, this is a story that starts with the happiest moment of our adventure. On January 6th 2007 in a country house hotel just outside of Manchester we were married. It was an amazing day with (almost) everyone we loved with us to celebrate, great food, ... read more

It's one month to go in the countdown towards our skive. Actually, it's 16 working days but who's counting? Flight leaves on 28th December at 9.30pm so that means we should be sipping Champagne (or at the very least a glass of beer for Mr Deane and a glass of Rose for Mrs Deane) around about 6.30pm on that evening. Leaving party has been and gone. Thoroughly enjoyed by everyone, especially the poodle rock music and the very generous buffet. See you on the other side. DC... read more
