England 001
Dad's favorite So from February 22-24th I was in England visiting Kelly, Dad, and our very good family friends Brian and Beryl.
Since not everyone know who Brian and Beryl are Ill give you some background. So the story goes that Brian met my grandfather Carmine in a business partnership involving both of their paint companies, Brian's being in England of course. As Brian put it, it was an instant friendship and they only grew closer from there. I have know this wonderful couple my whole life, and I feel really lucky to have in our family.
So the plan was for me to hop on a plane after class and fly and into Manchester, Brian and Beryl live less than 15 minutes from the airport. Even though Denmark is not very far away from england traveling was pretty exhausting, I had a layover in Amsterdam so the entire trip took about 6 hours with all the airport madness. When you go into another country you have to fill out a landing card which says where you are coming from, your name, and also the address you will be staying at. I completely forgot about this and I had no idea
what the address for the house was, so I left it blank and didnt really think anything of it. But nope, the lady was like I cant let you in. At this point I just got off the plane 100s of miles away from Denmark, its not like I could go back! I had forgotten my cell phone at home, but I knew Dad and Brian were waiting me only a few feet away on the other side of the gate! So after about 20 minutes of sitting and waiting for this lady to figure out what she was going to do with me, she let me through, "Ill do it for you this time, but next time you need an address", haha I'm like ok see you next time?!
It was so nice to see Dad and Brian waiting there, such a relief! We hopped in the car and headed to the house. This was my first time in a country where they drive on the other side of the road, cause Denmark uses the same side and the U.S. I dont think I could ever drive like that! Beryl swears that if she can use the other
side in the U.S that I could do it in England, but I'm still a sceptic lol
Kelly was sleeping when I arrived at the house, but I of course had to wake her up to at least say HI! She was exhausted from shopping all day, and I could tell by the two huge bags she had filled to the top!
Brian and Beryl had a full day planned for us on Saturday. First we a nice breakfast, then took about an hour drive to their cute summer cottage in Whales. They are right on the water, and it was beautiful, full of boats and rolling hills in the background. Next we took a short drive into the town to see a castle and walk around a bit, I put up some funny pictures of the weird sights we saw. Welsh is definetely the weirdest language I have ever seen! You couldn't even try to pick out a word that might sound similar to english. I took a few pictures of the signs, I laughed every time!
Then after taking a nice drive through the countryside we stopped at a little pub which was the first
licensed pub in Whales. We had an amazing meal, the food was so good! I split some vegetable soup with dad, and had a wild mushroom pasta dish. They had really good beer too!
We had a quite night that night, just relaxing at the house watching some football and rugby! We got to see their supermarket, which was realllly nice, reminded me of wholefoods because they had a huge menu of prepared foods you could buy. It was huge, def much much bigger than anything we have in Denmark, but I like the small markets in Copenhagen. One thing about our market in Denmark that I dont think I've ever said is that you have to pay for plastic bags, I think its a great idea because they people dont use as many, and they get reused a lot more. They arent that expensive about 50 cents a bag, but still can you imagine the average Sunday grocery shopper in the U.S paying for the 20 bags they use, thats 10 bucks!
haha Anywho... Sunday we got to meet Brian and Beryls son John and his wife, they came over for a cup of tea! (english accent
included)
My flight was around 4 so I had to leave in the afternoon for the airport, it was another long travel day I didnt get back to Copenhagen until about 11:30 but at least no troubles getting into the country!
It felt really good to see Dad and Kelly and Brian and Beryl were so good to us, thank you again so much!!!
My summary of England: I love tea time, the countryside is gorgeous, driving on the other side of the road is impossible, and English people are super friendly!
So this is the end of my SUPER UPDATE series, I got two weeks to burn then I get 3 weeks of travel break!!
Once again, miss you all, and love you so much! <333
