We went to the British Museum today and I saw the Rosetta Stone! Yay! I've wanted to see it for ages. It was pretty amazing. It's in a protective case so you can't touch it, but it was so great to finally see it. I remember seeing an exhibit at the Royal BC Museum in Victoria several years ago called "Treasures from the British Museum", and there it was, the Rosetta Stone! I practically sprinted over to it, only to find that it was a replica. I guess the British Museum wasn't letting the real thing out on tour. Anyway, now I have seen it! 😊
We saw all of the Egyptian exhibits, some of the Greek exhibits (Parthenon), the Ancient Turkey exhibit, and the Easter Islands statues. We were going to see the "Roman Exhibits in Turkey" but that room was closed. How annoying! Since we were just in Turkey that exhibit would have been really interesting to see.The museum was quite crowded and there were some school groups there. Imagine be able to see the British Museum on a school trip - how great is that. We got to the museum shortly after it opened 10 am. It

Who-ee! I have been wanting to see it for years! is a very nice, very well curated museum, as you would expect.
I enjoyed seeing the Egyptian exhibits so much, and it was hard not to be disappointed that we had cancelled our Egypt trip and instead gone to Turkey. But Turkey was so amazing, and we enjoyed it so much, and we will go to Egypt one day, I am sure of it. (And we did, in 2016!). We spent about 3 hours touring the British Museum and I could have spent much longer. I would love to go back and to see more. If I lived in London I would go every weekend until I saw everything. We had lunch at the Museum Cafe (I had a nice nicoise salad). We also visited the gift shop and bought a calendar, two mugs (with Egyptian tomb paintings on them), a Rosetta Stone fridge magnet, and a scarf for Susan's Mom.
After lunch we headed to the Tate Modern, taking the tube a few stations, then walking over the Millennium Bridge. It was windy! The Tate Modern was really good. We saw lots of paintings, some I really liked a lot. Some of the exhibits I didn't like
at all, but most I did like.
We then took the tube to the station closest to Mary and Dennis' place, and we left for a family dinner at Dennis' local - the Red Lion - just after 7. We had a really good meal and a nice pint first. Besides Susan and I, Mary, Dennis, Carol, Jacob, Margaret, Susan's cousin George and George's wife Alice were there. I had a souffle to start, yellowfin tuna main, and a brownie for dessert. It all was really good and I am stuffed now. It's 12:25 am now and I don't feel tired. Maybe because I'm so full. Plus I had a coffee after dinner - for once it was nice and strong.
Our flight to Vancouver leaves at 5:15 pm tomorrow, so we'll aim to be at the airport about 2:30. Tomorrow we will just pack up, and go for a fish and chip lunch with Carol Ann. I can't believe our adventure is nearly over!
