Landed in London right at 7am. Navigated my way to the arrivals lounge, then around and up the elevator toward the parking garage but actually to go to the Virgin Atlantic Revivals Lounge (LHR Arrivals Lounge). Nothing special except many showers available which was of course the point. After freshening up I headed back down to the new Heathrow Express into the city (No more Piccadilly Line to Cockfosters). At Paddington station I changed to the Bakerloo line toward Charing Cross.
At Charing Cross I went above ground into Trafalgar Square to the magnificent Nelson Column to wait for my friend Randa. After meeting up we walked 10 minutes northeast to have breakfast at a local eatery.
Of note was that the healthcare system permits a flat rate for all pharmacy drugs, all schools (even religious ones) are funded to some degree by the government and follow similar standards. Also, she and her roommates took their landlord to the town council over the conditions of the house they were renting and the result was that the landlord had to choose between making repairs or evicting them (with 60 days notice rent free). He chose the latter, he was an MP.
Randa had to continue her search for a new apartment so I walked east along the north bank of the Thames. I crossed the river at the Millennium Bridge and continued along the south bank to London Bridge to take a photo at the same spot my wife and I visited 7 years before. Fairly tired and running out of time, I returned to the underground and headed back to Heathrow on the express.
My flight to Zurich is a regular economy class ticket so I can only visit the Aspire "pay lounge" (free for me since I just got a Priority Pass card). By the time I went to the gate I was dragging pretty hard. I crashed asleep for the entire 2 hour flight.
