We caught the overground train today to go and see Mel’s cousin Sarah. We met at Crystal Palace Park for a walk and for Em to have a good run around. The park is the remains of a large leisure park constructed in the 19th century. The Crystal Palace itself was originally built in Hyde Park for the 1851 Great Exhibition with entirely glass walls and roof supported on an iron and timber frame. It was relocated to the park after just six months and finally burnt down in 1936.

First on the agenda was the dinosaur sculpture park. There is a lake with an island in the middle and many large sculptures of dinosaurs have been built on the island. After a quick look at the dinosaurs, Em spotted a playground through the trees and we were off. There is also a hedge maze which Em and I finally managed to solve, although we were a bit concerned that if we couldn’t get in, we didn’t know the way back out either! It turned out alright and we left the park and headed off for lunch at Sarah’s apartment where we spent a lovely afternoon before heading back. Em was asleep in the carrier when we said goodbye and was very upset when she woke up because she didn’t get to say bye L
