Monday 5th November After work I rode to the Kensington Odean cinema where The Who movie premiere was being hosted, with Roger Daltry and Pete Townsend making an appearance. After waiting for 3 hours in the cold, the bastards walked straight past all the fans to the mob of photographers/interviewers and then in the nice cosy cinema. Who do they think they are!
Tuesday 6th November Emma's work mate Verity met us in Hampstead with her boyfriend for a couple of tasty pizza's. They're a very friendly couple but are heading back home to Adelaide soon unfortunately.
Wednesday 7th November With work out the way, I made my way over to Leicester Square (once again) for a quick kebab and a wander. I had to kill a bit of time before lining up for the Graham Norton Show, being held at the BBC studios in Southbank. Crossing over Waterloo Bridge and up to the studios I found, to my surprise, that there were already about 200 people lined up waiting. After an hour or so they let us all in and I scored a fairly decent seat amongst the 500 odd crowd. Graham Norton
is like a gay version of Rove Macmanus and on tonight's show the guests were Elle MacPherson (she's still got it), singer K T Tunstall and a foul mouthed Scottish comedian (whose name escapes me). Norton proved to be just as funny between shots as he was on camera. Near the end, he plucked two people out the audience to participate in a rather risqué fashion show modelling some woollen lingerie he'd bought on the internet. All in all it was a good free nights entertainment.
Friday 9th November As true Porcupine Tree (it's a metal band) fans, Cambo and I were to attend their gig at The Forum in Camden tonight. Just down the road from Kilburn which was nice. The support band were quite good despite looking like an 80's glam metal band, but the real joy came when the Porcupine Tree lads cranked up. We were only about 4 or 5 people from the stage and the sound was amazing. They had a video screen set up behind them showing clips which complimented their (up to 15 minute long) songs brilliantly. During one of their songs - "Way Out Of Here", a train blasted
Ang Again
Needin A Nice Burger down a track towards a disenfranchised young girl, with the drummer emulating the sound of it approaching, louder and louder, faster and faster until the inevitable screeching of the brakes. Other highlights were Anaesthesia and the title track to their new album "Fear Of A Blank Planet".
A truly amazing performance and one of the best concerts I've been to, with everyone quietly (during the songs) appreciating this unique band. It's not all doom and gloom either, it's absolutely brilliant music and what's surprising is that they've been around since the late 80's. Do yourself a favour Australia! Benri, you'd probably like them. 😊 They impressed me so much that I bought a signed drum skin and drumstick for Ben from the merchandise stand. My ears thanked me for attending and we eventually found a bus in crowded Camden and headed home.
Saturday 10th November Recovered (slowly).
Sunday 11th November Another day, another première. Yep, I'd caught the bug. This time it was the Beowulf European première with Angelina Jolie, Ray Winstone and Anthony Hopkins. I mounted the treadly and got to Leicester Square at around 10am, but after arriving and talking to
some of the people setting up the props, it wasn't due to start until 6pm! Doh! Not what I was told. Oh well, I got a bit of exercise. I returned later on at about 3pm and it had definitely cranked up a notch or 3 and it already looked about 5 times bigger than Halle Berry's première. One side of the Square was blocked off to allow the limousines to drive up and they were busy cutting and laying down the red carpet. People were already lined up all the way along the barriers so I had to stand a fair distance from the front entrance of the Vue Cinema to get a spot on the rail.
Anthony rolled up to the roar of the crowd but when Ang appeared it went nuts! She eventually made her way around to my end and once again I missed out on the autograph but got a decent photo of her. She too, looks quite ok in the flesh (Em will most likely be reading this). It's definitely not all Hollywood smoke and mirrors. Just when it looked like things were settling down, bloody Brad Pitt the wag, pops out of
Roger Daltry From The Who
Come back here ya mongrel! a car and starts signing anything and everything. Not near me though. 😞 After a half an hour or so the worlds most glamourous couple entered the cinema...and 20 minutes later they were back out and off like a shot. You didn't think they actually hung around to watch their own film do you?
