We set off this morning from Telford at 12 to get the train leaving Wolverhampton to London Euston at 12.45pm. Steph's mum was nice enough to give us a lift to the station and we arrived with ten minutes to spare although I nearly didn't make it after I bent down to pick up my bag only for Di to be shutting the car boot at the same time which smacked down on my head! It sounds worse than it was, I actually thought it was her elbow so I soldiered on :-) Getting the train was fine and we got some seats next to the luggage rack. We did have reserved seats but they were in coach K which turned out to be the second carriage and we ended up stood next to the last carriage. We attempted to make it down the platform to our carriage but in the end just jumped on a nearer one and sat in some unreserved seats. We've established Steph's bigger bag is obviously heavier and is a struggle for her especially when trying to put it on her back! If anyone has seen the film "Wild" with Reece Witherspoon, the scene near the
beginning where she's trying to put her backpack on is very similar to how Steph looks when trying to put hers on. I've fared a bit better but it is awkward with our day bags as well. In fact sitting in the hotel now at Heathrow I'm already wishing I hadn't packed as much, Mine weighs just under 14kg which isn't so bad but poor Steph has 19kg on her bag!
We got off at Euston and then navigated the underground, to get the tube to Heathrow Terminal 4 where our hotel is for tonight. I managed to wear too many layers for the trip down so was very hot on the tube carrying my backpack. Every time I always forget how hot it is travelling on the tube! Our flight is at 6am tomorrow morning so it's going to be a very early morning, we've got a taxi booked at 3.15am to take us to terminal 2 which is where our flight to Lisbon goes from. You'd think it wouldn't take long to get there but the trains between terminals don't run through the night and apparently it takes 20mins to get there by taxi. It
was a bit of a trek from the tube at Terminal 4 to the Premier Inn and we actually think that we've probably walked the most we will need to with our backpacks etc until we come back to the UK as we've got taxis and transfers booked from the airports to hotels so fingers crossed!
As soon as we checked into our hotel, we dumped our bags and went to get some food as we haven't eaten all day. We also had a cheeky drink and we're now chilled and relaxed ready for the adventure to start tomorrow. So now we're just chilling in the room, checking everything is packed properly and we have the things we need to hand ready to get an early night and get up ready for 3.15am!
Oh one last thing has anyone else been on a Virgin train and used the loo, as soon as you go in a voice starts talking to you pretending to be the 'toilet' And trying to have a conversation with you! It's proper weird!
