happy birthday queen victoria! all week they have been showing programs about queen victoria on the tele celebrating her 200th birthday. she reigned as queen for 64 years. monday was a bank holiday here in the uk. i took a train from wanstead to broxbourne to meet my arcadia friend bob. it was only a half hour journey. we spent the day driving through the countryside of buckinghamshire stopping at points of interest along the way and ended up at the ascott estate. part of this old tudor home dates back to 1606. in the 1940's the rothschild family donated it to the national trust and the family still use it as their country home. the views from the house were magnificent but i was underwhelmed by the house tour itself. it is such a long ... read more

a full english breakfast consists of all of the following: tea or coffee toast with marmalade or jam 2 eggs 2 bacon 2 sausages black pudding (blood sausage, my favourite!) baked beans fried tomatoes fried mushrooms fried bread and sometimes a potato/hash brown patty. i only tackled this breakfast once at a hotel/pub i was staying at in the lake district. it was included with the room so i had to have it. :) i've been doing some more exploring of london, mostly from above looking down. my new ukranian friend elena and i went to sky gardens in london. it is a high rise building built in 2015 offering a 360 degree view of the city from the 35th floor. i think it is much better than the london eye which is expensive and not ... read more

Well its been 4 days now since arriving back in London and because it was my first proper travel experience i am struggling to adjust back to normal life. In the end it was more then just a holiday, it was an experience far deeper then anything else. A Journey: “The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” - St. Augustine I only started the book and I want to read it all! People go on holidays to lie on the beach, watch the sights or get drunk in a hotel bar but there is so much more to each country on this earth then places designed for tourists. You won't realize though until you actually go behind the façade, leave the guides behind and explore on your own, ... read more

Hey everyone, We've ARRIVED!!!! Yay, I'm happy to report that we are safe and enjoying what London has to offer. We arrived four days ago. We had quite the first day! After getting in at 7:00AM, we were detained at customs for a medical check. Bhahaha, the doctor literally looked at us, said we looked healthy and then sent us on our way. After that we dragged our 60 pound snowboard bag, backpacks, and other miscellaneous items through the airport to the overlander train. Well we found ourselves in a 'bit' of a situation. At one of our transfers Meg's got on the train (with all of the purses and her backpack) and the doors quickly CLOSED, seperaing the two of us!!!!!! Yup, that's right Megan was on one train with a ton of bags and ... read more

Having stayed up so late with Bree on Friday, Saturday morning was a bit sluggish to say the least. In fact I passed on the morning completely and went straight through to the weekend. Bree was also struggling but at least managed to venture outside, even though it was only for a manicure. I guess I was struggling, it had been quite a run of busy days starting with the overnight flight from New York to Frankfurt, and it felt like I hadn’t really stopped since then, so I managed to justify an idle day. At 6pm we met up with Layla, Hayden, Layla’s brother John and her mate Ross near Liverpool Street station. I worked near there for 2 years, but don’t remember ever visiting a pub called ‘Dirty Dicks’. We all had a couple ... read more

Friday morning was a real high point of the trip. I awoke in my hotel room but immediately decided that was my first mistake. Not feeling too clever, it was a ‘Nurofen and water’ morning, lying in a dark room. Mental note to self - Guinness and Curry is not a good mixture. The only thing I really had to do was get to Bree’s office on Tottenham Court Road for midday to drop my bags off there before she headed out for her Christmas lunch. I got there at about 1pm and thankfully she’d prepared the receptionist for my arrival, so my bags got dropped OK anyway. Coffee and breakfast, but once again the day was slipping away from me. Other than the ‘getting there at midday’ thing, the day’s main priority was xmas presents, ... read more

Still reeling from our visit to the Indian embassy to get our visas. No problem we thought....we're prepared to wait for a bit. We'd applied online, booked our appointment slot and STILL had to wait - a bit like the deli counter at Tesco, take your ticket and wait for your number. Strange thing though..people kept going to the counters WITHOUT tickets!! We clocked this after about half an hours wait. From getting a little bit annoyed we both started to become quite annoyed in our disbelief at how blatent some people were doing it. I'm sorry but it doesn't matter that your 80 years old...we've been waiting for an hour too!!! To make matters worse the screen showing the ticket numbers just wasn't moving either. Oh the joys of bureacracy!! I think the best was ... read more

Roll on January 16th!! We are on countdown before heading off on our round the world tour. Two forty somethings who are leaving all the doom and gloom of the economy behind...mad or stupid....only time will tell. Anyway more important things to sort out such as desparately needing to rent the house out. Time is ticking!!!!... read more

Well we meet again dear friends, Let's hope this trip is not like the Matrix Reloaded which is all about the glitz, glamour and cgi with very little substance and no story. Wait a sec, up until now that's pretty much what my life is like, obviously without the cgi (as i insist on doing all my own stunts). Jokes aside hoping this really will be the honeymoon to beat all honeymoons, the power of wifi and ipaq should mean this maybe gets updated a little more often that last time. I hope you all enjoy it as much as we will. The wedding went absolutely brilliantly, the sun came out after 2 weeks of being grey and everyone had a really good time, including us. It was a magical and special day and one will ... read more
