Posing with Royalty
Kloset Queen meets the England royalty wax figurines...not quite enticing company! WEll, it's been another hectic week and I have officially been in England for over a month now. The first few days here seemed to drag a bit but now I find it's quite routine and I am finally meeting up with people/making friends.
It wouldn't be a regular week without some kind of strange happenings so of course, I had another incident of detective work to sort out regarding missing money on my Oyster card. I got to the root of what had happened, now I am just waiting to receive reimbursement for money used up on MY travel card. It's a long story that I won't get into but of course, you can always email me for more details on this and more!
So, Lynne came back from Abu Dhabi last week and has been suffering with terrible headaches. Dave took her to the hospital on Saturday last week to get it checked out and they were there for several hours. IN the meantime, he got Congunctivitis (nasty sore eyes) so the pair of them were really going through the mill this week. Dave had a reunion with a bunch of his mates in Wales so he
decided to continue with the plan despite his eye problem as he had some medication from the doctor which seemed to be helping. Lynne was still having bad headaches and neck problems even though she had several massages, then the hospital called and said she needed to come in right away. So, she went in and then they wanted to do a surgery. She ended up driving back home, getting a cab and spending 2 nights in the hospital so I didn't see her until Friday (she left for the hospital Wed. PM). So, I was quite concerned but really, all I could do was pray and look after the kids. They did okay, Alex found it quite hard without his mommy though. Dave shortened up his trip and came back as soon as he knew she was going to the hospital and arrived back on Thursday PM, taking the kids to the hospital to see Lynne. He worked from home Friday and said I could take the day off. I asked if he was sure and his answer was YES so I went with it! Whoo hoo.
I had a class at the gym so I
Begona & Chloe
Welwyn Garden City, Saturday - Sept. 27/08 went to Body Pump. It was pretty intense workout with weights, great for my upper body strength but quite brutal. I think it was my hardest class so far, definately comparable to spin but my upper body strength is a lot less than my legs so it's harder for me at this point. Afterwards I took the tube and went for another London adventure - this time it was to Madame Tussauds, the wax museum. Usually the lineups are very very long, several hours on weekends so I was advised to go there on a weekday because it isn't as crazy. I practically walked right in! The tube station was literally a 2 minute walk from the museum and then with my Merlin Annual Pass, I got in free so that was cool. It was extremely neat, I enjoyed it a lot. Got lots of pics with celebrities and of course, saw lots of people I didn't know too. I met a random girl from Germany who was there by herself so we took turns getting pictures (she didn't have a camera). I am going to email her the photographs and who knows - maybe I will have another person to visit in Germany one day. I treated myself to some apple strudel at one of the cafe's and did some browsing at the tourist shops. I am actually really enjoying all the browsing and not so much buying. NOw that I have settled in more, I don't really want to spend all my money 'cause it would be nice to save some more for home and of course, have some extra coin to splurge when visitors from Canada come to see me! So excited for that.
So, my friday was over before I knew it, I try to get back home before or around dark because it's weird in another place walking around, definately not doing that alone in th emiddle of the night here. There is quite a lot of crime here.
Saturday I went to visit my Spanish aupair friend, Begona. WEll, first I went to the gym for a Body Combat class, it was a little strange because I have never taken karate or tai chi or anything like it but I learned some moves and it was quite a good workout. Practiced punches, jumps, etc. incredible workout and I felt pretty impowered to kick some butt if I needed to. Sweet stuff. Begona lives in Welwyn Garden City so I have to take a train in order to get there. The coolest thing is that when you get off the train at Welwyn, you walk into a shopping mall! My first real shopping mall! WOW, I was stoked, it even had 2 levels with an escalator. So, that was pretty neat - we finally found each other and then browsed around. I bought some chocolates for Richard (he is a total chocolaholic), got a shirt, skirt (on sale just waiting for me!) and a piece of cheesecake, not a bad bunch of purchases considering I was out for the whole day! Begona thought that I must have never seen so many shops because I was excited about everything but tired out by the end of the shopping trips and wondered why I hadn't fallen in love with EVERYTHING from the last few shops. Guess I was shopped out. It is really fun just taking a look around and trying things on, good therapy because most times the clothes don't look as good on as they do on those enticing hangers! Haha. So, we had a nice visit, chatted in the pretty gardens and a cafe before parting ways. My train ride on the way home was interesting, not sure that you are allowed to drink alchohol on the trains (you aren't allowed in buses) but there were about 10 young guys having beers in the same train cube as me...so mature as well.
Sunday I had a pretty easy morning, just emailed and did some reading. I got off to church at 11am with Emma, Hannah's sister as Hannah is meeting her boyfriend Chris' family this weekend, very exciting - love is in the air here in London! So, church was good, the service was about Love and what it is, means, etc. After church I had a good chat with Lynne about some family issues I was going through, she let me have a cry on her shoulder and it was good to let it out. It's nice that they love me as part of their family here. I straightened myself out and got ready to meet another aupair Bianka. She is from Romania, 25 and just arrived 2 weeks ago. She lives quite close to me so it was only 1 bus ride away to meet her and we browsed some more shops. She loves to shop as well! WHOO HOO, I think we hit it off. It's funny, I was thinking after hanging out with her today that meeting aupairs is sort of like going on a first date but harder. first off, it's a chick so if she doesn't like you, it sucks. You want to make a good impression, seem like a good/hardworking aupair, be able to have fun, not be so thrifty you are cheap about everything, etc. So, it's a weird combination where you don't know if you'll see her again or if she'll be like "NEXT" 'cause there are always lots of aupairs that want to meet up. With those comments aside, we had a nice visit - her boyfriend doesn't live here so we've got that in common, she is an English teacher in other countries so she speaks very well which is a real treat to find in an aupair because most are still learning the language. There were lots of cool things with her but all in all, I think we will get along and be able to hang out really easily as we live so close. It's hard to meet a lot of other aupairs from Facebook because they live so far, it's okay for weekends but I'd prefer to just have acouple good friends and spend my time with them. WEll, I guess I better get going, it's Sunday night now. I will update again probably after the adventures of the coming week. Hugs, Chloe
