We decided to do a part of New River Walk near Finsbury Park on 30th August. We took the tube the tube to Finsbury Park station and walked across. We came to this park at the end of March after completing trekking on the Parkland Walk; it was rather quiet owing to the lockdown. There were quite a few people in the park on the August bank holiday. We had a picnic lunch near the flowerbeds in the centre of the park.

Mark found the signpost for New River Walk across the road and then started walking on the riverside walk. We could see waterweeds under the surface and a wide variety of water birds like cormorants, ducks and glebes, etc swimming and resting on the banks. We also found a very striking red chimney with abbreviations of OCC – Oriental Carpet Company – and found engineers reinforcing the chimney.

The riverside walk led us to the footpath/broad walk along East and West reservoirs. These reservoirs were surrounded by reed beds and home to a wide range of waterfowls. It is the site of Woodberry Wetlands constructed by natural regeneration project, opened in 2016. It was interesting to see a number of modern, high residential buildings along the lakes.

Afterwards, we reached the site of the Castle Climbing Centre, the building of which was converted from the pump house.

We walked down towards Clissold Park. This park has a number of attractions – deer and goats sanctuary, pond, etc.

We then walked along the avenue flanked by trees towards Canonbury Station.
