Today I decided to spend some time walking around and just shopping. London has this amazing fashion and I wanted to buy some cheap pieces to transform me into that. I was buying accessories and wearing them as I was walking around. My favourite store is Top Shop...especially the one in Oxford Circus. Its huge and has so many awesome things. I didn't buy anything there because I don't want to spend too much money and have to buy another piece of luggage. I did get some awesome boots for £20...which is cheap, even for Canadian standards. Its really difficult to get my stomach and mind back to London time. I wasn't hungry until 5:00 today (about when I would have lunch in Spain) and I made myself eat dinner at 8:30 otherwise I wasn't sure ... read more

AND I made it back to the hostel in one piece! The theatre was so beautiful. It was neat because you didn't actually have to leave the theatre to go get a drink or go to the washroom during intermission. Spring Awakening was amazing. I'm really glad I saw it in London because all the rock songs had a very British rock flair to the feel and to the choreography and I love British rock. The set was phenomenal! The artistic director really had an eye for the kinds of things they liked (I didn't get a program so I don't know who directed it). My favourite was one of the end scenes but I won't ruin it. The cast was amazing and I couldn't believe they were (probably) so young. (Maybe I should have gotten ... read more

After a fantastic Saturday, Sabrina and I took our time getting to Leicester Square on Sunday. We had planned to get there about noon, but stopped for thai food and coffee on the way. We ended up there around 3. They were still setting up some of the fences around the cinema but there were some areas completely caged so that people could sit and wait for the red carpet to arrive. There were two boys that were standing behind one of the gates, so i asked if they were waiting for friends to arrive or if we could stand with them. Everywhere else was completely packed and there would be no way that we would get a front row seat anywhere else unless we stood by the gate. They were not waiting for anyone, so ... read more

One of the great things about London is the opportunity to go to movie premiers and battle the crowds to see famous people. Completely worth it. The twilight premier was cool because i just showed up after work to see the stars because i was reading the book! Will was planned. Sabrina, Alyse, and I planned to meet up after work and see Will Smith. I got off work at 4:30 and headed home to change. One of the guys in the hostel came with me and we walked to Leicester Square and the premier was just madness! We walked around until we found barely decent spot where we might be able to see the stars on the red carpet. When it was finally time we somehow got up to be 2nd from the fence! I ... read more

After a five hour nap the American boys in London were ready to hit up a pub and get some pints in 'em! We took to the streets to see the awesome Christmas lights that were hanging above. A bit of magic mixed with luck and a pinch of streetwise know-how led us to a dilemma: which one of the two open pubs should we choose? There was The Woodstock which looked like a winner and then across the road lay the Spread Eagle... which we just wanted to go to because it sounded cheeky. The Woodstock won out. With an incredibly interesting (not to mention educated) Brazilian import bar maid the evening started off with a few laughs and some good 'ol football rivalry between her and one of her patrons who we would ... read more

After our visit to Sir John Soane Museum, we had lunch at Cote Restaurant in the middle of Soho. The restaurants clean lines and its highly professional and friendly staff was a great introduction to the restaurant'. Its food which could be best described as French bistro was fresh, tasty and provided good value for money by London standards. Their menu includes classic dishes such as steak frites, salad niçoise, free-range chicken from the Les Landes area of France alongside lighter dishes such as roast sea bass with olive oil mash with a garlic and tomato dressing or salmon hollandaise. We started with a selection of olives and bread to get the taste buds going and after what seemed a very short wait our orders were taken. Paul ordered the pissaladiére which we shared. Pissaladiére is ... read more

Although my job is completely mind numbing, I have the hook-up. There is a lady at work whose sister-in-law works for the NHS and they get an alloted amount of theater tickets at a discounted price. When some of those tickets dont get sold, she sends them to her s-i-l who i work with. She forwards the an email out with all the available tix and times. ANYWAY. to make a long story short. I got an email yesterday saying they had Les Miserables tickets for 5 pounds. SO I got to go see Les Miserables on broadway in London for 5 pounds! And they were really good seats. The play was amazing. I knew nothing about the story but I didn't really notice. All their voices were so good and it was a really small ... read more

School is out for the day! I'm on the train to London for the Queen musical, and I'm SO excited! At St. Pancras International Station, I switch to the tube system, taking the long escalator down. I love the posters that line the walls on the way down, advertizing the latest West End show. I love the wind as I rush through the corridor, winding around, walking quickly now with the flow of foot-traffic. Anyone who is experienced with underground trains knows what I mean. Those wind blasts that never cease in certain spots of the station. It's the wind of the Underground. I take the Tube to Tottenham Court and the train is so packed, we're literally rubbing against each other. As soon as I walk up the steps onto the street, again I'm overwhelmed ... read more

Well looks like I'll have to over everything that happened yesterday, and then some of today. To begin with I was supposed to go on a guided historical walking tour yesterday morning, but when my alarm when off I got up and found myself gagging in the toilet. Don't anyone dare think I got sick from drinking because I barely had one. I don't know what it was. At first I thought it was the flu, that is the last thing I wanted right before classes start. But after that I decided to skip the tour and go back to bed. I woke up at noon and I felt fine. It's still beyond me what happened, maybe I was dehydrated or overtired I don't know. I feel bad that I missed the tour, I'm sure that ... read more
