We landed in london yesterday morning around 8:40It took us a while to get to our flat. The hardest part wasn't meneuvering through the airport and to the busses with our luggage with 59 other people not wanting to leave Daniel's side. The hardest part was staying awake on the ride to Notting Hill.Bus/car rides are the only things that make me tired?and we found traffic.I was doing word puzzles, organized p hotos on my laptop..everything and anything to stay awake. When we finally arrived I was completely breathless.Going down a little street with amazing houses sits 11 Palace Court. My home for the next four months. It's so perfect and typical.I was in the basement which worried me a bit until I actually saw it.I walked in the door to my flatt which is very roomy and especially since im ... read more

So another Bank Holiday comes around and this time thought i should check out the Notting Hill Carnival. This is meant to be the biggest street carnival in Europe. It does have a parade of sorts, really its just a load of people walking or doing their thing behind trucks which carry steel bands, or DJs, or music in general. Anyone could join the parade if they felt like it. It is a huge Carribean Carnival that has been going since 1964. There is loads of different little areas all around the back streets of Notting Hill, Ladbroke Grove and Portobello. It goes for two days, although people generally only go for one day. Amanda and I went, got a little lost en route (go figure considering the amount of people around at the time) and ... read more

My first blog! It has been a fairly hectic but very enjoyable five initial days in Ye Old-e London. I've seen the sights, inhaled the pollution, navigated the public transport and drank the... a lot. I have just arrived in Paris, have found myself in a fairly boring part of town at the hostel and oddly I feel like I miss London quite a bit. The Parisians might as well call me an Eengleesh Peeg Dog. Ah well. Until September. Meanwhile, what have I been up to in London? Saturday, July 7 Up early(ish) for a decent browse around Portobello Markets, a mere stone's throw from my cousin Nicola's place in North Kensington. Loads of very pretty and tempting wares on offer, from prints of painted movie stills for £12 (I bargained mine down to £10!) ... read more

Hi All, After my whirlwind stint in the land of the free, I am reporting from my “pit-stop” and eventual destination, London. Eight days ago, back in New York City, it was 10:00pm and I needed some dinner, but I was down to $US1. I wasn’t sure where the nearest food outlet with a credit card facility was, and I wasn’t going to take the chance of encountering the homies across the road so I went without. With the lady at the hostel annoyingly booking me on the 4:00am shuttle despite my flight being at 8:45am, I had next to no sleep either. “It’ll take an hour and a half to to get there, and you need to be there 3 hours before you fly”, she said. Everyone knows that’s bullsh*t, and I arrived at JFK ... read more

Pictures: http://good-times.webshots.com/album/558472913UepewY Notting Hill: Portebello Market In the way of fashion, Portobello market does not have a strong influence on London trends. You will find antiques, fruits, veggies, and fish, but not a lot of influential designs. However, after I walked through the market I decided to continue through the rest of Notting Hill. To my surprise there were a lot of great boutiques. More high-end fashion, but shops that you see in other areas as well. A list of the great shops: http://www.mynottinghill.co.uk/nottinghilltv/fashion-list_shops.htm ... read more

Lisa and Andre convinced me to go in to town to a market that they said would be good. It looked like it would have been - had it been open on a Saturday. Fortunately there is a lot to do in London so we went to Notting Hill instead. No, I didn’t see Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant, but I did see a whole heap of markets. If you need an antique anything then this is the place. There were also plenty of other stalls - food, clothing, jewellery and knick-knacks to keep the hippies happy. We had planned to have a pretty quiet evening but Amanda saw that plan quashed, she had been watching a friend’s rugby game and then been on the hooligan juice so convinced us to have a few drinks too. ... read more

Hi all, having a wonderful time though I have about one million blisters on my feet already...! Spent yesterday walking around, our plan was to walk through Hyde Park down to Westminster and the Houses of Parliament then onto the Tower of London before lunch. We got sidetracked at the War Cabinet Rooms (dad you would like these) which was probably appropriate given it was Remembrance Day. Finally made it to the tower and then on to the Tate Modern. We decided we don't get modern art! Today heading off to Notting Hill then onto Lords. I guess Nick came and looked at Harrods windows so I should go to Lords! running out of time so must head, hope all is well, miss you all and will put some pics up soon :-) lise and nick ... read more
