Europe 1 001
Mike looks excited to get off the plane! Day one of being in London has come to a close. Our flight was VERY nice on Virgin Atlantic, and I will definitely take them again in the future. Amy finally got to see Slumdog Millionare, and Mike got caught up on "My Name Is Earl" episodes. After a delightful dinner, we had a beverage to help us sleep. We got a little bit of sleep, but the little kids behind us had other plans.
Upon our arrival at Heathrow, we were greeted by Elvena, who even made a sign! Adrian, the little man, picked us up in his appropriately sized little car. We headed back to his mum and dad's house to freshen up. Mike had some difficulty understanding the toilets, much to his embarrasment. We found the house to be, what they call, "quaint and cute."
We had our first pub experience, and it didn't quite live up to our expectations. Adrian and Elvena assured us that there will be a better experience later. Amy and Elvena quite enjoyed the Bangers and Mash, but Adrian and Mike's "burrrr-grrrr" (they poke fun at the way I say it) was not so impressive. After our meal, we headed to

We took this picture mostly for the "Car Park" sign. Hampton Court, where they were celebrating the reign (and multiple wives) of Henry VIII. Lots of history, and random-ass rooms, but we could not find the room where he consummated these marriages (the self-titled "boom-boom room"). We eventually assumed it occured EVERYWHERE. It's good to be king. The gardens were spectacularly amazing, and the garden maze was fun until we all gave up. We had to run all around town trying to get money for a 99p "99 Flake," which Adrian and Elvena assured us would be the greatest thing ever. I'm pleased to say it lived up to it's expecations!
After we got in the car, we passed out while the Brits argued over where to park and how to get downtown. One thing about London is the fact that the distance between two points is NOT a straight line. When we finally parked, Mike made himself prim and proper while the rest of us stayed covered in sweat. We went and had some great Thai food, and then to an Adults-only museum night at the Science museum. It was lots of fun! We got to drink beer (which we thought was cheap until we converted into dollars.)

The entrance to Hampton Court, the Palace of Henry VIII. We got to do lots of hands on activities (wow, we're SUCH teachers), and see the assortment of sexual devices the museum has for nights like these (display only, NOT for hands on). The best part was the Silent Disco, where everyone wore their own wireless headphones, and danced to one of two DJ's. It was really cool to watch everyone dance to the different songs, although nothing was actually playing in the room!
Adrian and Elvena then gave us a scenic tour of central London at 40 mph. Imagine these two Yanks in the back seat flailing all over each other trying to take pictures and get a look, while Elvena says "look to your right...oh, I mean your left!"
We went back to the flat, had tea and toast, and passed out. We're going to try to see some of those sights we flew by today at a walking pace. Pictures will come soon!
We then headed into central London, and passed out in the car while the Brits argued about where to park the car, and how to get there.
