Hello all, and thank you for visiting my blog. Well we arrived! But it was not an easy feat. We arrived at the airport at around 1pm PST and our flight was to take off at 4:05pm. Everything went as planned! Check-In was fine, goodbyes to family were fine, but then we went to through security! I didn't beep which was rather surprising (as I always do) but Dad did! When he went through the guy took out that wand and was tracing over his body listening to the random noises it made and of course it noticed his watch, necklace, gum wrapper (?) and such. Apparently the new rule at YVR security is that they don't make you take off your shoes unless you beep the first time. So Dad took off his shoes, ever ... read more

It's been an extremely long day. I left calgary yesterday at about 3:30pm and got to Manchester at 6:30am today. On the plane I saw a very serious mullet: business in the front, party in the back accompanied by a rat tail - it was friggin' awesome! When I got to Manchester, I found a train to London right away, caught the Tube to the hostel and was here and settled by noon. I checked my facebook and e-mails, of course, grabbed some food from the Sainsbury a block down the road and slept. I woke up at about quarter to 7 in the evening. I was hoping it'd be later so that I could just fall back asleep until morning. I showered, forgot to switch the voltage on my blowdryer AGAIN while in the UK ... read more

So... its the day before the off and the whole of Britain has woken up to a blanket of snow! In London it is reported to be the heaviest in 2 decades and of course the transport system is on total shutdown. All buses, tubes and trains aren't running and both the runways are closed at Heathrow for now but hopefully it will all be cleared by tomorrow night and the backlog also cleared. Got myself togged up in every warm thing I own and set out this morning to collect my passport - worried that they wouldn't have been able to get the Vietnamese visa stamp. No need to have worried... despite all the banks and most of the shops being closed, Trailfinders were open and had everything ready for me. Phew!... read more

I highly recommend that when planning a 3 month trip - you give yourself more than 4 weeks to do it in! Especially if you haven't got a valid passport! Week 1 First meeting with Tom at trailfinders - gave him my list of things I wanted to see and do, my budget and timelines. He did a great job and sent me through a draft itinerary overnight. I changed a few things... and we reworked it together at a marathon 4 hour session but by the end of it I was now going for 3 months instead of 2 and had spent almost double! Oops. Week 2 The start of the to-do list was formed from initial thoughts after reading travel guidebooks and back-packer survival magazine articles. The list grew to 2 x A4 sides ... read more

Hi, it's Bee Dandy. We've had a fun couple of days. Food, food, food galore. Seriously. We haven't been in London more than a week yet have already travelled to Borough Markets twice. I've never seen anything like it before. Must be heaven. I can't even begin to describe the atmosphere of this place. It's Londons oldest food market, has been running for over 250 years. It's a wholesale fruit and vegetable market, meaning you can buy directly from Londons farmers & sells some very fancy pants food straight from the people that make it. Plus, Jamie Oliver shops there so that gives it extra points obviously haha. Day 1 Thursday: I think my jaw was permanately dropped. The only downfall was not being able to buy everything. Smic got a wild boar sasuage sandwich & I ... read more

January 17th Moving into the Residents hall was pretty cool, my cousin had called the taxi in to take me from Keningotn to Kensington. I felt compelled to act British to convince the cab driver that I was local so he wouldn't try and rip me off and it actually worked! I felt good to know that I could be convincing when need be. I met a lot of cool new people here and the chance to form long lasting friendships that I could cherish for a while. The food here is okay pretty much what I expected. I can bounce a quarter 2ft with a drop on the iron board firm mattress but like most things you get use to it. We ventured around Kensington and West and Central London and were able to check ... read more

January 15th I have been in London for about five days now. The flight here from Fresno wasn't as long as I expected most likely the result of anxiety and benedryl to put me to sleep. I got lucky at the airport since the American Airlines attendant didn't really bother that my bags were heavy and over their limit. I arrived into Dallas fairly early and got some good ol' chinese food before I left for London. The 9hr flight to Heathrow was pretty good being that no one sat next to me giving me a good bit of extra space to but my backpack and food that I broguht on the plane. We were about to land a full hour early but London as well as most of Europe was experiencing an extreme cold spell ... read more

So after lasting until 3pm local time on our first day me & bee crashed out and slept for a good 16hrs =) Waking early and finally feeling refreshed from sleeping in a horizontal position for the first time in three days we decided to visit the natural history museum just down the road. We decided to go enrich our knowledge of history! Oh and it was FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!! Free things are our new found friend. Surprisingly though we arent finding London to expensive, we were worried after being repeatedly told we wont last more then a few days in London because of the extreme cost of living. $99 coffees, $389 dinners and $1,000,000 hostels were what we were expecting. What we found after walking around Kensington for half a day was that food and drinks are ... read more

The plane ride was average for the first 7 hours then it allllllll went downhill from there. Smicy was Mr. Grumpus and I was whinging because the travel sickness tablets made me feel sick. There were crying babies EVERYWHERE. We did not look pretty at all. Some people on the plane still did at the end of the flight which really irritated me! London lights look freakin awesome from the plane though! :) Fun fact: I was almost denied entry to the country as I didn't have my return ticket on me or any other crap you apparently need to get in. I know, I know, stupid me but Smic had everything in his bag and Mr. Irish citizen got to go straight through. End result: I got yelled at for about 15 minutes but I ... read more
