Early morning start for our flight to New York. Flight went really well.
The New York airport has been closed in recent days due to large amounts of snow fall, but all seems ok now.
There is much snow around the city. Looks like they had 4 – 5 inches of it.
George has recently been allocated gold membership of American Airlines.
This carries certain privileges and means that we can now sit in the economy plus section of the plane with upgraded meals and service etc. This made the 8 hour flight a lot more comfortable. Got a yellow taxi from the airport to the hotel.
For the fixed price, our taxi driver took us for a detour through the Queens area of New York which is an area we have not ventured into before. A very interesting detour avoiding a large traffic jam.
Thought we might see some snowmen, but just some very big piles of snow.
We are staying in the Mayfair Hotel on 49th Avenue which is about 200 yards from Times Square – the centre of everything in New York.
Went to TGI Fridays. On the way back to the hotel the temperature was about -5 – very very cold when including the wind chill.
