the front of our new home MR JONES
smurf blue colured VW Transporter 1987 Diesel 4 speed manual, has done around 220 000kms Just a few photos of Mr Jones (our home for the next 6 months).
A few of the features of the old boy:
- has a third battery under the driver seat which runs all of the lights and accessories in the van
- has an outdoor shower (only cold water unfortunately) but will be good to wash the feet off
- but we do have a solar shower which we hang from the roof (outside) and can sit on a camping chair under to wash ourselves when we cant find a roadside stop that has a shower for us
- there is a switch to isolate the stereo from the accessories so you dont waste the battery whilst using the stereo and being stationery
- Also the stereo has an ipod connection for our newly accrued 200Gigabytes of music... yes around 40,000 songs, thanks to our room mates
- and we have a stereo speaker hooked up to the car stereo so we can take it outside with us when making dinner or whatever away from the car a bit
- of course it has complete mains hook up so we have complete power at camping grounds
-
other side, with the sliding door
the roof actually pops up so you can fully stand up inside, and even sleep up the top of it if you wanted to there is a massive gas tank which runs the cooker, fridge, and thermostat controlled heater
- also a massive water tank for the sink tap and shower, the sink runs into a grey water tank below the car, which we can empty at designated locations at camping grounds
- we have an awning for the side of the van so we can be undercover when outside, we havent tried this out yet but will get our first opportunity at the lake district next week
- also outdoor table and chairs and a butane cooker for all of our picnics in the glorious European summer weather
- we have plenty of gear to keep us entertained (it is 5 months after all!) Bocce, jenga, cards, connect 4, frisbee (apparently this type of frisbee holds the record for the furthest thrown in the world, 450m!!)
- plenty of camping books and maps to help us plan along the way
- although we do have GPS with all the European maps on it to keep the navigation arguments at bay! woohoo, a relationship saving invention indeed... ha ha
- there are curtains to all of the windows (including the windscreen when we park
and this is where the hard hours behind the wheel will take place
note the stereo speaker on the floor which runs from the car stereo and has long cable so we can bring it outside with us while we picnic under our awning up for the night)
- the rear windows are double glazed for temperature control, although no air conditioning, so we have bought a fan to try to help us keep cool in the mid 20 nights we are expecting sometimes
- and finally all of the tools and DIY mechanics books to help me keep Jonesy on the road!
So enjoy the pics, and we will probably update you in about 2 weeks now when we have actually been somewhere to write about...
WOOHOOO! Bring on 'ONE SUMMER!'
