Well today marks a year since I left little old Perth for the UK (or the end of the Festival of Pete as Kel would call it). So can’t believe time has flown by so fast, it feels like only yesterday, yet at the same time I feel like I’ve been here forever, it certainly feels like home (well a second home perhaps). So a year, it has been an eventful one: *two temp jobs and three houses *trips to Berlin, Edinburgh, Berlin, Copenhagen, Morocco, Stockholm, Cairo, Brussels and Oslo *England trips to Coventry, Leeds, Liverpool, Blackpool and about 10 trips to London *about 10 comedy performances *and over 115 music gigs (averaging three gigs a week) and seeing somewhere in the vicinity of 300 different bands/artists in total During that time I’ve made a stack ... read more

Yesterday Siri and I were up before the sun to go to London and watch our final two performances by the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) in the History Cycle. We saw the sunrise from the bus which was really cool. The sun was huge and a beautiful red-orange with a ray shooting straight up. After a long bus ride and a quick journey on the Tube, we arrived in Camden and in front of the Roundhouse theater. We were perhaps a bit excited. Okay, we were extremely excited. To be able to see this cast perform two more plays was amazing. The first play at 10:30 was Henry VI, part one. Henry V has just died and his very young son is now king. However, he doesn't do much ruling, on account of his age and ... read more

So folks after much ado, here's my travel blog. If you don't want to get emails about this every 5 days or so, there should be an easy way to unsubscribe. Feel free to invite others. I hope you'll find this enjoyable, inspiring and easy to use. The trip has been awesome thus far. Here goes... 4.5.08 (Friday) Landed in London. Got hostel and slept. 4.6-7.08 Toured around London. Stayed with Aaron Daly's uncle Robin and Nancy Daly. Very nice folks. Their place is quite small, and they are very efficient at using their space - every inch of it. It made me think of how much I waste space, and I have so much of it. 4.8.08 (Monday) Took train to Totnes, Devon County England. Very cute town here. One main street with all the ... read more

Firstly, hello to all the newbies I’ve added to my blog mailout - hope you don’t mind me adding you, if you want to be removed just let me know (honest, I won’t be offended …). So its been a few weeks since my last update (sorry Tam) and not a great deal has happened. The other week I moved into a new flat - still with my flat mate Laura, long story but when I moved in with Laura the place we were in was just temporary whilst the old building was repaired for flood damage. We’ve now moved into the flat proper. Things are going well, still got my ensuite, a good sized room and a cool little ledge which I can sit on and look out over the street and read. Birthday the ... read more

We're about to embark on our last London adventure before we leave for Africa tonight - hoping to see the big crack in the floor at Tate modern. The last 2 days have been a blast, saw the British Museum and the Tower of London and hit the pubs with Sive each night. I'm liking the pub culture here , every night here is a busy night at the pub, they close at 11:00 but you can take your beer to go and buy more at any convenient store -and drink it on the street! ... read more

Greetings from sunny London! It's not really sunny, as I'm sure you can guess. In the last few weeks I've been getting myself organised, jobsearching, not studying and seeing London, although I have definitely been guilty of procrastinating on the tourist front (I have six months... yeah yeah). My classes are quite interesting, I'm taking Social Psych, Developmental Psych, Cognitive Neuroscience and a masters level course on Transport planning. The classes are far more independent and flexible than the American system, and you are definitely required to think for yourself, rather than remember and regurgitate like the American system. I have only nine contact hours a week, and I haven't had much assessment, because most of the marks come from the final exams in late May and early June. I have a job in a traditional ... read more

We've arrived We took the Tube from Heathrow to our Hostel which was cool because it was so cheap, but awkward because the train was super crowded giving us only standing room and our bags were really bulky making it impossible to move when someone needed to get off. The Hostel is pretty cool though, we're in the largest (and cheapest) dorm -28 bunk beds, real cosy :). Spent most of the afternoon sleeping and then went and got supper (there's pretty tasty ready made food here) still trying to adjust to how freaking expensive thing is here. Going to see the British museum tomorrow and probably meet up with Sive. ... read more

I've been in London for a week after three weeks of being away from it. I have to say that coming back to it has made me realise that I am leaving at the right time. I feel very little for London these days; it's expensive, noisy, polluted, and I always seem to have allergies when I am here! This blog features pictures from my lunch out with the boys and a couple of touristy shots from the only place in London that I enjoy from time to time - although there seems to be a serious lack of music shops for such a musically inspired part of London! It's been weird spending the last seven days trying to enjoy myself whilst at the same time panicking every night about the long haul and travelling in ... read more

I have arrived in London, England. Flying in at 8.30 in the morning, I had a clear view of parts of the city. There I saw my first view of a red double decker bus, the Millennium Dome, and other stuff that looked important and impressive, but I’m not sure what they were. James picked me up from the airport and after going to my new house, and dumping my stuff, went back into the city for a quick tour of the sites. It was all a bit of a blur, as the jet lag was kicking in, but it was pretty cool to see the things that are so famous. I had a great New Years Eve. I headed into Embankment to a club with James, Megan and a whole heap of her friends. It ... read more

I arrived at Heathrow airport on the night of the 28th of December. I met Hazel at the airport and her Dad drove me back to their house in Bushey, near Watford within Greater London, where I spent the next few days until I could move into residence on January 2nd. On arrival in Bushey, I took the opportunity to do not very much for the first time in a while. I met some of Hazel's friends and she showed me around her very English neighborhood, we went to the park and to a couple of bars. On New Years Eve we decided that despite the enormous hassle, we were going to go to Westminster and watch the fireworks. We arrived at Big Ben and the Thames at about 8:30, and spent the next half hour ... read more
