London was a meeting ground of sorts for us, and perhaps I should first divulge all the key players in this soiree with friends. First of course are the boys (Jamie and Richard) who were spending the week with us but were unfortunately heading home at the end. Next is Litty, who I used to go to high school with and moved to Cambridge University 2 years ago for a PhD scholarship, and came down and spent the first weekend in London with us. Then there was Ross, who was in the grade above me at school and moved to London at the beginning of the year - he took us out for a superbly trashy night in Soho where we danced to suitably trashy music and acted in an equally trashy manner. My old uni ... read more

My day May 21, 2009- Thursday So Thursday didn’t go exactly as I had originally planned. I had wanted to go see the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace with a “London walks” group. Remember, I had those 3 free walks I could do since I bought the Original Tour Bus pass. However, I didn’t get everything ready/done in time. Not only did I have to get ready, I had to check online to see where the London walks group would meet. I didn’t figure I’d have enough time to walk to McDonald’s to check online, so I was going to use the computers at the hostel. Well, they said the internet wasn’t working at that time, so I realized that I wouldn’t be able to go. So I went to McDonald’s after all and ... read more

My cooperating teacher from my student teaching days is in London with a friend of hers, so we're getting together for dinner! It takes me almost 2 hours to get to Bayswater from my school in Luton, but once I arrive, it is so nice to see her! On the corner next to the tube at Queensway, I jump and laugh and almost run to hug her. We walk down the road to find a pub, talking the whole way. It was so nice to hear a southern accent again! Mrs. Shewmake is one of the best teachers I know, and I feel honored to have been her student teacher. Although she's now retired (and loving it), she has a few questions about the education system here. I like the States' education systems better. I think ... read more

Greetings from one of the worlds great cities, London. Once again, London is only a stepping stone to our adventure and we will only be here for 3 days before journeying on. One of these times we'll have to 'do London' instead of just passing through. But how do you just 'do London'? It's such a great city with history, sights, traditions, arts, museums, monuments, and could one ever 'do London' in just one trip ? Although London is only a stepping stone the adventure of getting here started about August 28 when Zoom Airlines ceased operations. We were another couple of the thousands of persons left stranded in airports or without a flight and Zoom having already spent our money for a flight we had booked on line and already paid for with a credit ... read more

Came up from Brighton today on the train. Beautiful day - weather is picking up a bit. Deb and Dom arrived yesterday and met me on the Brighton Pier. They are so brown from their week in Croatia. They loved it - may have to add that to my "to do list" , along with Tunisia. Have met a lot of people who have been there and had a great time. We wandered around Brighton before going back to the pub where we stayed and had a rest before going to the 40th birthday party we were here for. Good night - 60's theme so lots of dancing and boozing. Left Brighton at 12 and headed to London. Booked in to Hotel and have just wandered around Kensington Gardens and Kensington Palace. Grounds of the garden ... read more

I headed back towards the hotel and went for a walk through Hyde Park and visited Kensington Palace. Had some dinner and headed back to Piccadilly for my show, which was absolutly awesome. Hi all, well, I have finally finished my tour of Scandi and Russia:( really upset about that. Yesterday we left Warsaw for Berlin, it took about 8 hours but we kept ourselves amused by having a bus party from just after lunch time until we arrived in Berlin. Rach gave us an awesome send off lunch with home made pasta and potato salads, chicken, bread, fruit, chocolate and most important Champagne! lol. When we eventually arrived at our hotel, we had about an hour and a half before leaving for dinner, so I tried really hard to fit all my souviners in my suitcase for my flight today, unfortunatly it didn't work, think I may of bought a bit too much, lol, you get that. For dinner, we went to The Happy Pig, it is a ... read more

We spent the last evening in Paris wandering along the Seine and watching the firework display by the Eiffel Tower. On the last day we travelled from Paris to Heathrow airport, spending an hour relaxing in a beautiful park in London enjoying brilliant sunshine. Then it was off to the airport for an easy check-in and the flight back to Hong Kong. All students behave perfectly on the trip and I really hope everyone had a good time. Students, please add your comments and reflections about the trip. It will be good to know what you thought of it. To help you remember, these were some of the highlights: Walking to Tower Bridge Buskers at Southbank/London Eye The Carnival in London The Italian Meal and singing at Bella Italia The Lion King High School Musical Shopping ... read more
