It is Sunday and what better to do than have a lie in. We plan to take the short drive to Kingswood just below the Cotswold escarpment to check out some of the places one side of my mother’s family, came from. Mum’s father was born in New Zealand to immigrants who arrived in Wellington; NZ in the latter part of the 1800’s.Why they came to New Zealand is not clear but as far as I can find out my Great Grandfather was the only one of a large family to emigrate. Through various websites we have been able to follow their movements at 10 year intervals of English census’ in the village of Kingswood which back in the 1800’s had a sizeable mill like many of the villages surrounding Wotton-under-Edge, the principal town in the ... read more

Well, after what seems like absolutely ages in the planning and probably a fair bit of procrastinating and faffing, I am finally ready for the off. The original plan was to get going by early June, now, the 24th is the eventual date, still, better late than never and hopefully this means that I'll have everything I need, ha, fat chance. After being made redundant earlier this year, and always liking the idea of cycle touring I thought I'd take the opportunity to give it a go. With no job to rush back to I've decided to head off over into Europe rather than stick to the UK for my first taste of the touring life. Well, there are a few more weeks of exciting adventures after the Red Centre Tour, but as its now over a month since i got back (YIKES!) i figured i'd finish the blog there. Overall i had a truly amazing time. Learned a lot about myself (wouldnt say i "found myself" as i dont think it was lost, and i dont think i'll ever really understand me anyway!), had some amazing and awesome adventure, met lots of cool, bizarre, lovely and occasionally slightly scary people and done more than i ever thought possible. i think this time around its the people i will miss more than the place. i hope i have made some friends for life and i cant wait to go back again, whenever in the future that may occur!
