Golf course on Cleeve Hill
He was having a baaaaaad round! Geo: 51.898, -2.07131
Up early this morning! 5am and the sun coming directly in the window! Fell back to sleep as best we could. Finally tried to roll out about 6:30.....TRIED, being the key term.
Every joint ached, every muscle tight.....we needed yoga and a massage! What we got was breakfast with a nice Swedish couple that were also out hiking and words of wisdom from our hostess, Sara!
"Why walk if you can't enjoy the view?" I realized that she was right! This trip isn't about how many miles we could walk or how much we could suffer, it was about spending time with my Mother and seeing the English countryside.....we took a bus up to the top of Cleeve Hill (the highest point in the Cotswolds)
We met a nice couple who were also gonna ride the bus up to the top. They were gonna walk back down to town so they told us to get off at the same stop they did. I have to say, everyone we've met is extremely friendly. Maybe its because we've only met the outdoorsy types but they are quite a hospitable nation as far as I can tell (and they like to talk as much as
I do....Mom likes to listen, not that she could get a word in edgewise)
The bus dropped us off at the golf course and those nice people asked if we wanted to share a cup of coffee before we went on our way. Apologies but we'd just eaten and really wanted to go.
Again, beautiful views and the day has been filled with dogs.....all terriers! Airedales first, a Pattidale terrier (Twiggy) at our reststop and the most loving and adorable Westie (Buttons) at our B&B.
We walked through forest and only had a few ups and downs....the decision to ride the bus was the best decision we could have made. Our 15 mile day turned to 8 (the first part was entirely UPHILL...ALL UPHILL) and we have ended at the most perfect B&B EVER. California farm is right out of someone's dream. Old, restored farmhouse, English garden, sheep bleeting in the distance, tea and scones upon arrival AND Buttons, who met us as we climbed up and over a fence. We sat in the garden for a good part of the afternoon with Buttons and 2 cats. I may try to stick her in my bag tomorrow!
***Story of the day*** She's gonna kill
me for telling the story but this morning at the bus stop, I was talking to the couple I mentioned and Mom was talking to this other lady. (Mom told me this later, I was not a witness, thank God)
So Mom thought she had her button down shirt on over a short sleeved hiking shirt......she buttons her entire blouse AT THE BUS STOP! Then she realizes that all she has on is the shirt that she's unbuttoning. I cannot imagine what that lady thought!
We've laughed about it all day!
P.S. Feet still blister free and ho rain yet! (knock wood)
