I've always wanted to go to Lewes Bonfire. It's one of the best known, probably the best known bonfire/fireworks night in the south of England. So when my dad told me he was helping out Lewes Borough Band, I jumped at the chance of going as well. Mum and me arrived in Lewes around 5.30pm, to the police closing the roads surround the town, and managed to park the car in a road on the outskirts of the town (which turns out to be not far from the Lewes Borough Bonfire site). We wandered into the town to try and find where the Borough Band was starting out from, but got a bit lost and found two other processions instead. We seem to be carrying enough anti Malaria tablets to safeguard the population of Europe, but very little else! Well, after all those weeks of planning and raising money to go, the day of departure has finally arrived. The nerves and anxiety of the last few days have subsided and I am really looking forward to the challenge of the next few days. Obviously, it would be good to know and have a clear picture of where we will be staying but the various reports indicate that it will be fine and everyone will be welcoming. The weather forecast looks as though we are in for a typical English summer of cricket weather: considering we are just south of the Equator - 95% chance of rain everyday and thunderstorms too! We received a very generous donation of 85 cotton playing shirts from a local cricket club earlier in the week and I managed to obtain ... read more

Last day today, we go on the coach from Brighton to Heathrow at 7.55am tomorrow. Carol is making us some cheese scones for the trip, just in case we get the munchies on the way. Today was a beautiful day,29 degrees, a scorcher for this part of the world. We made the most of it and went to see the Bluebell Railway with Carol and Ernie. Love those steam trains! Enjoy the pics, see you back in Oz. Byee.... read more
