I should be packing. I've been meaning to blog about my last weekend trip away but I've been so busy with work and preparing for an upcoming trip that it's been slightly pushed aside. So here it is complete with photos and I promise not to let the next slip by with nothing...
After my day trip out to Stonehenge and Bath, I booked a weekend away to Brighton to check out as I've always heard nice things. As much as I do love London, it's also been lovely to get out of the city now and then. The hustle and bustle can be exhausting at times but I also consider myself lucky to be surrounded by so many things to do. As well as being so close to new places to visit and explore. And as I was on an early finish that Friday and summer very much becoming a distant memory, there was no better time to jump on a coach and head to Brighton for the weekend!
The coach to Brighton was quite inexpensive and took close to 2.5 hours to get to Brighton - although I feel atleast an hour or so of that was
Brighton
Beach Huts just trying to get out of London - traffic is mental on the roads at the best of time but 6pm on a Friday evening also doesn't help. I napped on the way down. We arrived at the coach station in Brighton just before 9pm and my hostel was a short walk away but still in the city centre. It was one of the cheapest hostels I could find, and also my first proper hostel experience with large mixed dorms and basic bunks that were 3 levels high. I think I had a look of shock on my face as I wasn't expecting so many people in the one room - my fault for not reading it properly, but it's also good practice for my upcoming trip away where I'm in a similar situation as well as any future trips since hostels are the cheapest option when kicking it solo. Nothing exciting this Friday evening - chatted to some locals in the dorm, went down to the pub for a couple of beers and went to bed.
Woke up the next morning to sunshine! After a week of rain and overcast and starting to get cold in London, I
Brighton
Carousel was thrilled to have sun and warmth back. I started off my day for a walk along the promenade down towards Hove to take classic tourist shots of the cute coloured beach huts. I then made my way back to check out Brighton Pier. It was nice walking along the water even if the beach was weird and had pebbles instead of sand. Along the way back, the beach side shops were beginning to open so I picked out my souvenir magnet (I started this tradition on my very first overseas trip to Bali and let's just say, after my 2013 Eurotrip, I currently don't have a shortage of magnets), found a cute carousel by the beach and made it to Brighton Pier. Oh my, what a playground of fun! There were rides, there were two massive arcades - such a fun little place to be. I didn't go on any rides but I did test my luck on the claw skill game in the arcade. I've never won on these machines before and usually find them a waste of money however for 30p, I'll give it a go. So I picked a machine containing Minion toys - may or
may not have been chosen because I'd recently been told that one of my favourite little person was in tears at being told I would be able to come to her birthday party this year - and after choosing my victim minion, 4 goes and getting some more change, I got him! Stoked!
Buzzing from my win, I then had fish and chips by the sea. And then spending the afternoon lazing on the deckchairs reading my book. Had a look around the Lanes shops - all of the big names plus really cool little vintage and gift stores. Went and took a photo of the Royal Pavilion - came back later that evening and took more photos because it looked so pretty lit up. That night consisted of much similar of doing nothing at all. I did however spend some time watching and singing along to Disney songs with some young lads busking on the street, topped off with a couple of beers before bed. The next morning, I went and got myself a full English breakfast complete with tea, checked out of my hostel and did a spot of shopping (Primark will be the death of my
Brighton
Brighton Pier wallet at the moment) whilst waiting for the coach home, finishing off my trip with a classic 99 ice cream.
It was so nice to take it down a notch and relax whilst still taking in another city to explore. Brighton is such a chilled out city and makes for the perfect weekend getaway to the sea. I can definitely see myself going back a few more times whilst I'm over here.
I have officially been abroad for 3 months now and what better way to mark the occasion than taking another trip away - and this time it's going international! Stay tuned...
