Guy Fawkes Night - 2008

Each year the students at Ushaw College (Seminarians) enjoy celebrating Guy Fawkes Night with the mandatory bonfire and fireworks.

Brendan reminded me that Guy Fawkes was a member of a group of English Catholic revolutionaries who planned to carry out the Gunpowder Plot on 5th November, 1605. The Plot aimed to kill King James I of England, his family and most of the aristocracy by blowing up the House of Lords in the Palace of Westminster during the State Opening of Parliament. The plot was foiled shortly before its intended completion when Fawkes was captured, while guarding the gunpowder.
